 Thinkin about getting an Iggie

So I’ve been thinkin about getting an Iguana and have been reading about them. I probably won’t get one till Next year’s NARBC so I have a lot of time. But i was wondering. Can they eat the same salad as my Beardies? and I plan on building a custom enclosure for it. But it cant be that big. I’m thinking it would go in a corner of my room like this:



But i’m not sure if that will be big enough. i was also planning on letting him free roam my room most of the time, and the rest of the house while i’m around him. (I may just give him the guest bedroom. but i doubt that will happen because i think i’m gettin a roommate soon.) They are herbivores, correct? They ONLY eat vegetables?
For UVB Does an MVB work? Like the powersun or mega ray?

Hi Joe,

Welcome to the iggy forum......YAY for doing your homework first.....We have a post for new ig owners not sure if you’ve read it yet..Lots of great info & links...go there and read,read, read I’ll bump it up to the top of the page for you and please feel free to ask any questions..no matter how dumb they are.....

Your enclosure size sounds ok....but when he’s full grown it maybe too small for him to keep him in it full time...but then again it depends on how big he or she gets...it would be ok for a good basking area and some where to sleep at night.......Go to the links on enclosures in the new iguana owners post and you can get all kind of ideas...

Yes they are herbivores....go to our post "New Iguana Owners" and you will find links to food charts and iggy salads....

Yes MVB work very well..I use them...I use the Solar Glo from Exo-Terra

I have actually gone to that thread and I have read through a couple of those. There’s a lot there... haha. Yea i doubt he would be in his enclosure at all when I’m actually home, which is a lot. I just need somewhere to put his lights and where i can keep him contained while i’m not home

Can they eat the same salad at my beardies?

I grow my own food for them so it would be easy.

Reading some of those Links i’m pretty sure i can.

what kind of salad do you feed your beardies? iggs eat collards, turnips, mustards, dandelion, bell peppers for color/taste enhancement. butternut squash, acorn squash, and spagetti squash are wonderful. good fruits are papaya, mango. melons ocasional for hydration. mine loves banana, but it tends to make his heart race, so its a treat. but theres so many other things you can feed. just look on the links.

I feed my beardie collards, mustards, dandelion greens(when i can get them), a lot of dif kinds of squash. and thats their main salad. and i usually throw something random in every day. usually like any random fruit i’m eating like an apple or blueberries bannana. etc
