 Mesh Top Enclosure Blocking UVB?

I have an all mesh enclosure that is about 4’ tall x 2.5’ x 2.5’ and I am using a 100 watt westron MVB bulb for uvb. 12" is the optimal distance to receive desired amounts of uvb. I do have this bulb 12 or 13" from my igs basking area, the only problem is the mesh is in between. I have seen tests performed with solar meters that say mesh practically cuts the amount of uvb in half.
Can anyone suggest a way to mount the light so my ig gets the most out of the bulb? Or possibly point me the direction of an enclosure where I could mount the bulb inside? I hate to say this, but I may have to look into building an enclosure so that I can mount my bulbs from the ceiling of it. I can upload pics of my enclosure if it helps. Thanks!

What I did for my mesh enclosure is use a higher wattage bulb just over the mesh. I’m using a 150 watt MVB mounted about a half inch above the mesh. Since the mesh does block some, but not all of the UV, the higher wattage bulb makes up for it. It also increased the heat, which we needed. Tazumal is growing like a weed since we did this and developed a monstrous appetite so it appears to be working well.

I had the option of getting a 100w or a 160 but i went with the 100. Im thinking about mounting 2 100 watt bulbs above the mesh, that way he can double the uv and it covers a larger area.

All my lighting is mounted inside of my enclosures because of "reflcection"
& by mounting my fixtures inside of my enclosure I save on electrical cost
for the enclosure is more efficient & requires less wattage to heat & light

Reflection is what you get when you mount a bulb over a screened cover
and depending on the size of the screening a percentage of light & heat are
reflected away from the enclosure....

This means diminished UVB/UVA lighting as well as heat loss inside the enclosure
and possibly dimineshed MVB life span because the bulbs "run hot" due too reflection.

You may want to cut a hole in the screening to avoid reflection
or replace it with a larger mesh as the finer the screening mesh is the more reflection
is taking place
or cut a hole in the mesh and using a ZooMed Deep Dome fixture over the cut hole(using a sharpie marker trace around the fixture & cut about 1"inch smaller than the trace marking) to secure your enclosure

i think for the time between now and when i get around to building an enclosure where i cant mount the lights inside, i am going to cut a hole in the top. the light is hanging from a chain connected to the ceiling and ever since i realized the mesh cuts uvb in half i have raised the light 12’ above the top of the cage and just let my ig bask on top of the cage haha. he really likes the direct light much more.

Thanks for posting this issue. It inspired me to cut a whole in the top mesh of my enclosure too.
Seems my animals are really appreciating getting the most out of their UVB and heat sources :).
