 Mouth wide open??
My iguana has been being lazy an sitting under the heat lamp until he start to open his mouth... The confusing part is he did this when I got him/her the second he got under his lamp and that time he was cold. Also please tell me your thoughts on boy/girl

I agree usually they do that when they are too hot. Kind of like a dog panting. They don’t sweat like we do to keep cool and some are just stubborn and won’t move to a cooler spot lol. My beardie does that he is very lazy. And I also agree that you have got a little girl there. congrats!)

Maybe if she started panting before she was even hanging out there too long your temps are a little high. I have 2 digital thermometers at my basking end because I’ve had temps go horribly wrong in my incubators in the past due to a faulty thermometer that I relied on so now I make sure that will never happen again!! She should be around a toasty 95-105 during the day at the distance of about a foot away from her lights (any farther away and she won’t get the benefit of the UV light). I don’t know where you live but I have to watch my temps constantly, during spring and fall I always have to up or lower the wattage to maintain my temps. My beardies do that quite a lot too lol

I say its a girl as well, you can see the line of pores but they are not prominent at all. :D Congrats! Also check the temp of the cage right under the light might be a bit to warm and thats why she is opening her mouth, to cool down. Good luck, she looks amazing.

it could just be gaping from the heat, but she could also just be trying to scare you. My iggy will make his body tall and skinny like yours and then open his mouth like he wants to bite. its a scare tactic and mine never follows through with it once i touch him.

Thanks guys... Its definetly not a warning because the only time he even come close to bitting is when it’s eating out of my hand and gets carried away... :) I was hoping that the thickness of the tail meant that it’s a boy... Then again he/she is still young... I can’t wait till she/he gets big :). Any recommendations on how to change my username?? Haha. He/she loves to be lazy and he/she used to belly flop into his pool

At that age it’s fairly easy to guess their sex and I’m pretty positive you have a girl there .. the nice thick tail means she is eating well and bulking up as she should :D Females may not get quite as big as males, but close, and there are some advantages to females like less aggression during the breeding season. Someone on the Green Iguana Society forum just got 7 stickes today from his male and another one the Yahoo advanced iguana care forum got 10 stitches just 2 days ago from a male in full breeding season swing.
And .. actually no, I have no clue how to change a name on here, I only see update email addy and that sort of thing hmmm

Thanks... She really does eat a lot of collard greens and I only give her fresh ones along with some fruits... I’m wondering what the egg bound thing is all about... If you could explain it And how to avoid it I would appreciate it. :) thanks
