 Cleaning/disinfecting

Just curious to see what other people use to disinfect. Are there any reliable/safe store bought cleaners anyone uses? I use a bleach/water mix recommended by Melissa Kaplan .. it’s pretty harsh though. I don’t mind using it in my tub after an ig bath, but when I clean the tiles in Helo’s enclosure the diluted bleach solution makes me a little uncomfortable and I always wash the tiles over and over again with water. Thinking I’d like to try another method so open for suggestions :) Anyone use nolvasan? And if so where did you get it, the vet?

I’ve heard of people using vinegar/water mixture it’s a lot less harsh and the smell isn’t nearly as strong I personally use clorox wipes and let it air out for 10-15mins or so which is enough time to give them a bath or just take them outside for some sun.

Melissa Kaplan says the nolvasan will actually kill all the nasty bacteria and after a general cleaning many ig owners will spray the enclosure down with nolvasan to disinfect and then leave it to try, she says its safe if the igs take a lick and doesn’t have an odor .. but I’ve never heard of it before .. think I may try to find some. The wipes are a great idea too, may have to start buying bulk lol

Nolvasan is a really good disinfectant. Almost all vets use it and you can obtain it from them. Melissa was right in the thought that you can spray down the cage with it and introduce the Iguana back into it right away with no worries.

I’ll check with my vet .. the prices I’ve seen online are very expensive but as you mix a small percentage with quite a lot of water it would last a long time and I keep and breed a few types of diff herps so it would be handy to have something less harsh that I don’t have to worry about washing completely off afterwards.

I use the generic Nolvasan and have been happy with it. I get it from Revival, an online pet supply store.

I use bleach if there is a lot of poop involved( he gets it everywhere!). Also I use this safe cleaner from walmart that has picture of animals on it.
