 My sick baby iguana

Can some one give me advise please!

I went to feed my baby iguana this morning and i noticed that while he was trying to eat, he couldn’t open his mouth, I thought that it looked like he had food dried in between his mouth so I ran some warm water over it, I got most of it out, and can get it open for him, but it seems like he can’t open it himself, my husband said he noticed 2 days ago that he wasn’t eating his food, what can I do? I’m so afraid he is going to die, please help me, I have called numerous vets in my area, and all have said that they don’t see reptiles, or my iguana,

Well, it could be a number of things do you have a Uvb light? if not then it could be MBD.. if the jaw seems slightly squishy or swollen it could be that. I think it might be mouth rot though but typically they can still open their mouths so it could be mouth rot mixed with something else I hope you find a vet. Perhaps if you can post a picture it would help to see it.

It’s really difficult for us to tell anything from an email. A picture will help, but please remember that any advice we give is no substitute for a good reptile vet. It sounds like your iggy needs a vet right away!

i’d be asking those vets if they thought any of their animal knowledge might be transferable. other things get sore mouths, too. i think very lowly of any vet who would actually refuse to at least try to help a sick animal. keep calling; shame one into it if necessary. very few of us would try to nurse a sick iguana without a vet. we just don’t know enough.
