Tiny Titan I put a longer post on the tort forum but you were right.. that place is a ghost town so I’ll at least share the pics here but long story short I ended up with the 1.5yr olf, not the 3yr old I originally went for.
(Ignore the substrate! My enclosure is choir + sand 50/50)

Tiny Titan he’s beautiful and you’re right... i really tried with the tortoise forum, but it’s very sad. i figure, okay, at least if those of us with tortoises also tend to hang in the iguana forums, i might as well just resign myself to keeping in touch here. i will go read the longer post, though.

Tiny Titan i just read the post. i think you chose well. pyramiding means something is already off. you have quite a handsome/beautiful guy/girl there and you’ve done great research. i look forward to watching him/her grow.

Tiny Titan I REALLY really really wanted the 3yr old and in hindsight as she is still so young the shell thing probably would have been mostly cosmetic only, once housed correctly should have been "fine" but as I am also still fairly new at the tort thing I didn’t want to take a chance. She was around $700, big gamble if you need to add a ton of vet bills on that and I am still working through the rehab with the ig I took in last March (thermals burns) so I just coldn’t risk it. I keep telling myself to stick to what I have!!! The 3yr old has been at that place for about a yr now .. and if she isn’t sold in the next few months I’ll probably end up loosing my mind over the debate about whether I should go get her or not. It would take a few months at least to be able to afford her and earn enough brownie points with my husband lol For now I’m happy to have my tiny little Titan and hope to get him/her and my new ig outside for some sun as soon as our weather is warm enough!!

Tiny Titan wow thats crazy $700 is a big gamble when you know you have to start going to the vet right away! I like the reptile rescue here they come out and check your enclosure to make sure it’s set up right before they’ll adopt out a new family member I’ve really been thinking about getting a couple sliders from them.... I love turtles, tortioses all of them lol but I would have done the same thing I’d be new to turtles and want to start off giving them the best chance and since I dont know everything I wouldnt know what the best treatment for a special turtle...
but the tiny titan is so super cute! makes me want to get one lol What kind is he? and is it a he? lol How big will he get? and whats his life expectancy? Do you feel like your playing 20 questions yet?

Tiny Titan Torts here are very expensive because I live in Ontario Canada so there naturally isn’t a lot of breeders in this cooler climate. I subscribe to Reptiles magazine and see all the breeders ads in the back and know I pay nearly double what some US breeders charge. Booo!
Titan is a 1.5yr old leopard tort. Not positive if it is a he or she yet. Leopards do not reach the massive size of a Sulcata but on average they will be 18+" and around 40lbs from what I’ve researched. Some info I’ve read said they can grow far larger and up to 100lbs depending on what their genetics are (certain genetic strains from some locations in Africa apparently tend to grow larger ..) but according to the guy I got this one off of the breeder is in Montreal, Quebec and the parents are the “standard” size. In the wild according to Wikipedia they live 80-100 yrs and in captivity I see a lot of people quoting 50+ yrs.
