Worm ID
Well i found a worm in big boys poo today! i already have a vet appt for tuesday (and luckily both of us are off because idk if i can handle him by myself at the vets lol!) but i was wondering if anyone can ID this thing in the mean time. it is flat and pure white and pretty big!

also wondering if this is a worm thats transferable to mammals (this is actually my main concern) because i cant remember if the dogs have been near anywhere near his poop at any point and they were just dewormed 2 months ago (with panacur) and they have another month to go before they get it again so i would rather not do it early if i have too. they get it every 3 months as a preventative and treating them early will screw up my treatment dates lol.

Worm ID Sounds like a flat tape worm but not enough of it is showing to tell for sure? A little tip for you. When you have to handle your reptile while on your own, (like a vet visit) Take a towel and cover your animals body from vent to up over his head ( some times you have to rap them up in a towel). They tend to calm down if they can’t see whats going on around them. Two week ago I had to give my female Savannah monitor a shot and being a monitor she wouldn’t stand for it. So, I took one of my old thick socks and from head to vent pulled it over her and she felt safe enough to stop fighting and made it easy to get a weight and give the shot. As for the dogs, as long as they haven’t eat’n droppings from your iggy or licking areas where your iggy has been they should be fine. You worm them on a regular basis, so I wouldn’t worry to much.

Worm ID thank you, i was planning on bringing a towel...and thick gloves...and a thick hoodie...and possibly my chainmail armor haha(jk i WISH i had chainmail lol) just because idk how he will react to the vets and going for a car ride and such...he was stuffed in a pillow case for his first car ride and i couldnt stand to do that to him. a vendor may think its fine, but i was so anxious to get him out of there lol. i have never seen a tape worm like that before. are reptile tape worms different then dog tape worms? the kind ive seen have come from dogs and look like pieces of rice

Worm ID Chainmail armor would be a good idea for some of my Iguanas/monitor!LOL. You may want to take a pillowcase just in case, if he freaks out in the car you may want to use it. We have had other members on here looking for advice on how to rip apart the dash board in their cars to get baby Iggie’s out. A few years ago when I got my Water monitor he had a bawl movement and there was a long segmented flat tape worm about 5-6 in. long. I took the monitor and the worm to the vet and he said he got the worm from a flee he ingested on a rodent someone feed him. Its hard to tell if your worm is flat, tape, round or hook worm? I know the flat tape worm will drop small segments of it body to reproduce and infest other animals. Is this worm in the new Iguana you got from the reptile show?

Worm ID Yes this is from Levi so there’s no worries about him getting stuck in the dash haha. I heard panacur is safe for igs and I have some but I would rather not risk it and see what the vet says. He needs a check up anyway so I guess Tuesdays as good a time as any lol
