Does Anybody have their Iggy living with another reptile in the same enclosure?

I was just wondering with my huge enclosure if I could not introduce a new Iggy but perhaps a Chameleon or something of that nature. What do y’all think? Has anybody had any experience with that? Let know!

Probably not a good idea even if it is a large enclosure. Iguanas prefer to be alone and sharing a home with a chameleon could really stress it out. And could result in a dead chameleon due to the iguana being territorial. Someone with more reptile experience could give you more info but I’m positive it’s not such a good idea. And I’m not sure if they both have similar heating and lighting needs.

no reptile should be housed with any other reptile of a different species, they all have different care needs, and some can kill each other just by being near the other, for example a tortoise and a turtle cannot live together because they each carry something that is leathal to the other, my tortoise and turtle arnt even on the same level of the house just to be safe. Chameleons need open air enclosures to thrive which is the opposite of whats best for an ig. plus chameleons eat feeder insects while iguanas should not eat insects, only veggies!and we wont even get into thet fact that a full grown 6 foot iguana could kill an adult chameleon with one tail swipe. also chameleons are not for beginner herp keepers...from what i understand they can be very difficult to keep alive for long. if you want a chameleon i would read A LOT and learn as much as you can before getting one, but if you do it CANNOT go in the same cage as your iguana.

As already mentioned you should never keep two different species of reptiles together plus iguanas are not ones for "tank buddies" They prefer to live alone and have their own "territory" if you put another iguana with it then you risk sickness, stress, and sometimes death. Most people who own multiple iguanas give them their own cages but allow them to be out together supervised, Chameleons with a iguana will probably = dead chameleon due to different habitat needs and food needs, and also the temper of a iguana could easily take out a chameleon or you could severely damage your iguanas liver with chameleons needing bug meat as food and curious iguana might chomp on it and well over time it could lead to kidney failure in your iguana. So in the end stick with one reptile per tank as there’s pretty much anything and everything that can go wrong and not to mention mixing species is generally a beginner mistakes and isn’t fair to one of reptiles due to you’d be skimping out one one or more requirement needs of the animal.

Ok sounds like a definite no! I did a lot of research today and just about every single person I read a response on said no, no matter what site I was on! I’m just an animal/reptile lover and feel like Oscar needs a friend but after what I have read, he is better off alone! THanks for yall’s input!

wow, milan, i didn’t know that about turtles and tortoises... great info. of course you all know what resides in my big cage, but i’ll keep it to myself as i am an extremely bad example. the only reptiles i have that even get along are penelope (sulcata tortoise) and sini (cyclura iguana), both babies. my beardies have no tolerance for each other, or for the baby iguanas. i’m afraid to even show my teeny green to my grown green--she’s a sweet girl but not very tolerant of her scaly siblings; sharing mommy is bad. so i spread myself as thin as necessary to give everyone what they need without endangering anyone. i’m on disability and have the time to do that, which is a very great blessing.
