Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Hello, I am new to the cite. I just picked up two iguanas from a yard sale a week ago. The guy who was running the yard sale said that he just had too many pets and even though he didnt want to he had to get rid of these guys. He had been trying to sell them for most of the day for really cheap but still no one was interested. Then we came along and he gave both of the iguanas to us for free because we told him we’ve had iguanas before and he wanted to find them a good home. The green one is about 2 and 1/2, according to the owner, but he looks a bit small to me. He has two large lumps on his chin. I dont know if this is from a past broken lower jaw or mouth infection... or if maybe he was just born with this defect. His nose is a little messed up from the whole transferring experience, but that will heal. Please let me know what you think about his chin, any kind comments are appreciated. Thank you for reading!

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Your right he does look small. I would guess mbd. Do you know what kind of food and lighting they were receiving? Maybe someone else can shed some more light but I would say first things first he needs a vet. Also I would plan on building a second cage to seperate them. Congrats on finding them a giving them a good home. I’m amazed he was selling them at a yard sale. That’s illegal where I live

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Well His jaw looks stunted and I would also say he has MBD not sure if the lumps are from MBD or not it could be from something else completely also the nose thing might be nose rub from rubbing it on the cage he’s in and making it raw or maybe a burn?, I would suggest a vet visit, some good pure calcium and some nice uvb to help ward off any further mbd damage and also separate the two if they aren’t already.

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Those swellings look like abscesses and probably need to be treated by antibiotics and ointments. Possibly lanced and drained. Usually poor husbandry causes issues like this and of course denying the animal a visit to the doctor in the early stages only makes it worse for the next person...YOU
If you can get a vet to look at them I would do it ASAP.

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Thank you all of you :) I will make sure to get lots of calcium in his diet and a UVB light for sure. Will look into taking him to the vet also. The two seem fine together and have lied together a long time too, will they eventually start fighting? Thanks again

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Good to hear and yes it is more then likely they may start fighting especially if thu are both males but no matter the gender igs do best by themselves. If you post pics of their nether regions we could give you an idea what the genders are

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin iguanas would much rather be only children. occasionally two (generally mates) will live together compatibly, but that’s the exception. don’t go by what they were doing already; clearly most of what they had already was wrong. i think cp is right about the abscesses--that was my first thought. two dangers there: you ignore the abscesses and they poison the rest of his system, OR, the abscesses are indicative of an already poisoned system. either problem will kill the iguana. definitely, no matter how many you have to call, get both of them to the vet, him because he needs it, the other because you want to know now if there’s something wrong.

Green Iguana w/lumps on chin Thank you all, I found a new home for the green iguana with someone who will be able to take him to the vet and give him a really good home also.
I decided this was best since I couldn’t really afford to take on a vet bill and since I needed to seperate the two anyway.
Now I just have the red one. Here are some pictures :)
Thanks again!
