 Update on the tiny turtle

Well we finally got his tank mostly set up. It still needs lots of decorating and such but we have the essentials down. If anything looks off and needs changing let me know ( I’m looking at you Susan lol) is the water too deep? I had to buy a filter because I do saltwater and you don’t use a hang on back filter for reef tanks so I just got one rated for a 60 gallon ( the tanks a 55) and a filled the tank up as low as I could and still get a good trickle from the filter but I prob could lower t more if needed. Also do you think I should get him some tank mates? I’ve seen people put other turtles with them is that ok? Or maybe even some mollies? They can be brackish so if I do add salt they should acclimate. Although they will prob become dinner when he gets bigger lol.

I just love his shell pattern

I did river rock instead of sand. I’ve found out from my fish tank that I HATE sand in aquariums lol. When we upgrade the reef I’m going bare bottom with it. Sand is such a PITA!!! Just my opinion lol!

 Update on the tiny turtle

In that last picture you can really see he is a DBT!!! If I’d had that one first I’d have known for sure! I think the tank looks okay. Mike is sleeping so I’ll show him in the morning.

 Update on the tiny turtle

lol he has finally settled down now that hes in a more adaquate home so i can finally get clearer pics of him lol. he has also gotten much more friendly too, he doesnt seem to mind when my hands are near him now! he is also eating, mainly tiny shrimp and krill and a bite or two of the pellets. hes also pooping regularly also. we put him in Levi’s bedrrom because thats about the only place with room haha! so Levi has a room buddy now, but hes so tired from his excursion today that he doesnt seem to care lol! i have been reading about others having RES or map turtles and such as tank mates with them succesfully, we have a reptile show coming up on the 10th and i think i may check it out because last time they had a ton of turtles his size for "educational purposes". he just looks so lonely in that big tank by himself lol! and the more im reading they more i see that as long as its started with a hatchling that hasnt had long exposure to saltwater that they can do just fine in fresh...im still going to see how he does before adding salt. he doesnt seem to mind at all.

Mike is going to try to copy that stuff that he has today so we can get it to you in the mail. Can you send me either a fax number or a snail mail address via private message?

 Update on the tiny turtle

Thanks Jessi. its funny i swear animals in need look for me lol they must know that im a sucker and will go to any lengths to make them happy. but i would be lost without them...did i mention we got 2 hermit crabs at the beach too haha! they prob wernt in need but i know some people think they are disposible pets so i "saved" these 2 at a gift shop down there lol. now i really need to start my search for a larger tank for the fish so that the turtle can have the 120 gallon. not that he needs it anytime soon, he looks lost even in the 55. a friend and i are going coral shopping today so i may pick up some mollies to put in the tank with Speedy so he doesnt look so lonely. although there is a reptile show on sunday so we may get him a little map turtle friend since i read they go well together...also i must mention to any fish keepers out there that i LOVE the product Cycle. its been only 2 days and i already have 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and about 10 nitrates in Speedy’s tank!
