those are fiji banded iguanas? i thought they were illegal to own? they’re beautiful and now i want one, but i just acquired a fourth, so i think i’d better just find a nice iguanas anonymous meeting.

we’re not super picky about what kind of iguanas you post here. in fact, several posts are about tortoises.

welcome to reptic zone and i hope your post isn’t just a sales tactic, and you stick around and let us get to know you.

jesse (2 greens, 1 blue, 1 lewisi hybrid)

Where do you live that you have Figis???? I’m so jealous! They are beautiful!

Figis are illegal in the US but I know they are kept as pets throughout Europe.

All iggies are welcome here.

They are endangered...and I guess the US cooperates in the exportation / importation laws. Would be very exciting to breed those !!

There was a big discussion about this on Kingsnake recently. The truth is that it is politics. Yes, they are endangered, but there are breeders who could easily get captive stock from the UK. However, they are consistently denied the permits. It makes no sense. Breeding them in the US would not affect natural population.

thanks guys

Tempestborn: not to worry it is not about selling. Fiji´s are the top of the pop for me. Here in EU there are quit a few breeders and all fiji´s need Photo CITES, they have been bred here in Eu even before they became CITES 1 animals.

In the near future(later this year or next year) i hope to get a pair of Brachylophus bulabula(the one called fiji iguana today), as for now i only have 1 pair of brachylophus fasciatus(Tonga iguana) and the babies.
And if all go well i will have eggs very soon, my female is getting really big, so my incubater will be running all year again(eggs need to incubate about 5-5,5 month).

well, megan, we’ll have to figure out how to smuggle them back. you could be preggers! we’ll put a zipper on a basketball... little scary how willing and quick I am to go around the law, isn’t it?

georgeous animals - hey I’m in Denmark too but have only seen fijis for sale on one occcasion - I was too late!! otherwise I would have had a fiji banded in stead of my green iguana now lol.

Aren’t they a little smaller than green iguanas?

Lone :)

Tempestborn:
I just copy your txt to my post, i don´t want to highjack your post :-).

I think it’s a giggle that you’re wishing you could get a blue, while we’re all drooling over your figis. you’ll have to teach us all about them. I don’t think any of us are super well-versed. how big do they get? are they:
friendly
hardy
delicate
rare
shy
adventurous?
it’s ok to just send me to a good site. I’m just fanatically curious.

we want to know about you, too:
male/female
age (approx, of course)
what Denmark is like
other critters
pics, please!

Fiji´s are getting more common here in EU, but in nature they are CITES 1 specie. The care is a lot like the green igg, same food but just added insects to the diet(mine get insects 1-2 times a week). they are not shy at all, my female will come to me to get her insects :-).
they are not agressive at all,

about me:
well im a guy
im 34 years old.

i used to keep and breed varanus griseus griseus and a few other monitors, and i have been keeping 5-6 monitor species over the years, i started in this hobby in 1994.
right now i only keep the fiji´s ( 1 adult pair, and 3,2 babies), and then i have 2,2 ctenosaura quinquecarinata that i have only been keeping a short time.
and the i have 0,3 Lepidodactylus lugubris a really fun little gecko that don´t need any mating they just lay eggs.

denmark is cold compared to many other countries, as for now we have had like 1 week of summer. but still a lot of plants in my garden for the fiji´s..

Your animals sound wonderful. I love iguanas so much. I have two. C. lewisi hybrids and one blue phase green. Now that my daughter is all grown up, they are like my kids. Here are my babies at a recent excursion to Petco.

Thanks. They are a lot prettier when they are outside in bright sunlight. Being inside in the A/C does nothing for their color. But they are amazingly sweet and friendly.
