He’s back!!!! 
stupid elvis escaped from his hundred-dollar, escape-proof cage last thursday. i’ve been living with all the doorways blocked off with boards and doing an ongoing search under things. i found him about 10 minutes ago, very skinny and pale, but otherwise none the worse for wear. he even still has his whole tail! i’m so relieved. he’s so tiny and there are so many places he could have wriggled into that i was sure i’d never see him again (even though i’m the one who always tells everyone else not to give up). he’s under the basking lamp eating right now. i am so grateful!

I SWEAR I AM NEVER GETTING ANOTHER HATCHLING!!! (somebody’s going to get to throw that back at me one day, no doubt.) too much can happen to them! they’re too little, too delicate, too sneaky, too prone to getting eaten by other animals... all that darling-ness just ain’t worth it! but i love my babies, and i’m so glad elvis is okay.

Hatchlings are the devil. They really are. I am glad that Taz is not a hatchling anymore. I won’t say I’ll never have one again, of course, but I know they’ll always make me nervous!
