Congrats he is a cutie! My very first iguana years and years ago was named Louie lol. I badly want a monitor but save are too small for me lol. I would dearly love a water monitor! Hmmm maybe when my reptile room is finished? I keep going back an forth with the idea because I love the monitors but I hate the attitude most end up having. Oh but they are too cute!! Keep us updated on his growth and such!!

If your monitor is healthy they will have an attitude. 99% of the ones you see that are dog tame are sick or dont have the right lights. Most need a basking spot of 130-150, at least 2 ft of dirt to dig in and you should breed your own roaches for the food. My savs went through about 20 duba roaches a day each. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks guys :) he is so tiny and he eats like a cow lol but he does have attitude already doing things like puffing up and hissing as well. But her get daily handling so we will have to wait and see what hes going to be like as he grows.

Gorgeous Savannah Monitor you have there, she/he has such a precious face.

I do have a few concerns however.

What is with the rocks in the tank? Savannah Monitors require a 50/50 sand/dirt mixture in order to burrow, this isn’t something you can slack on.

You will need to get her out of that tank as soon as possible, they do not hold heat and humidity especially with a screen top.

Savannah Monitors aren’t a hands on type of reptile, they do not enjoy being handled and it stresses them out immensely (More so than other reptiles). I would recommend you keep handling to a minimum, otherwise your monitor will never trust you.

What are the temperatures in the tank? Humidity?

I am aware of the sand and dirt, we already have it and I’m putting it in today. As for the temps his basking spot is 100 and the humidity is a bit lower right now but once the dirt is in it will hold it better and bring it up to where it needs to be. I am aware that tanks don’t hold humidity that well its just a temporary enclosure until he/she gets a bit bigger and we already have the one he is going to go into.

You need to bump the temperature up in the basking area, it should be 125-130 degrees. This is why you need to get him/her out of the tank very soon, you can’t possibly have proper temperatures in a tank.

If you already have a suitable enclosure then you should put him/her in it now, there is no need to wait.

The other enclosure is a 4x2x2 isn’t it a bit big for him? and I have a dimmer on the light and can easily get it to that temps.

No it isn’t too big for him. As long as he has some cover along with substrate that will allow him to burrow and hold a burrow well he will be fine. He will definitely enjoy the extra space.

I am happy that you are open to advice and criticism, i am sure you will be a great monitor owner.
