 AGAIN!!!!!!

geez, this little guy is driving me nuts! i only found elvis again wednesday, and he’s gone again! he’s so tiny and SO fast! i unzip the cage just a teeny bit, enough to get my arm through to put the dishes in, and hold up the corners, and he launched himself from the back of the cage right through the tiny hole there was. i heard him land by or on the big cage, but he disappeared. so the doorways are blocked off again. i can’t do anything else. i’ve already darn near crippled myself tearing the place apart for him twice. i can’t be hauling furniture around. so i wait again. i swear sini’s been acting strange--much more restless than is usual for her this time of day--i’m half convinced he’s in the cage, but it doesn’t have much stuff in it, and i’ve looked. maybe i’m just wishing...

Oh, Jesse, how? I think you misnamed him. I think his name needs to be Houdini.

 AGAIN!!!!!!

he launches himself for the opening of the cage, no matter how small i try to keep it when i have to reach in there. he’s smart and he knows right where the zipper is. and then he’s gone. he’s still tiny, and this is the second time i haven’t been fast enough to stop him. he’ll turn up (i hope). last time i caught him because he was trying to get some food from martie’s dish. (note: ever since martie started eating in the kitchen and the dogs started eating in my bedroom, she eats all her iguana food every day. i guess without the dog food to fill her up she has to settle for something.)

i wish he’d quit it because i have a heart attack every time he does it.

galadriel is doing excellent. elvis has taught her his "jump for the door" trick, though. she tried it today. she’s not as good a shot as he is, but i don’t take my eyes off her for a second if i have to open the cage.

 AGAIN!!!!!!

i found him. unfortunately, sylvester found him first.

he’s alive. missing about 3 inches of tail--it was just hanging by a little piece of skin, so i snipped it off. looks like 3 puncture wounds, one on his lower left side and one on each back leg. i washed him off and put some ointment i have on him that has benzocaine and lidocaine (one is a numbing agent and one is a pain killer). i put him on the fleece under the light and galadriel chased him away twice. i’ve been getting a little concerned about them being in the same cage, even as young as they are. we knew from the beginning that galadriel was very dominant, but she grows faster than he does and is half again his size. i’ve been putting tiny food dishes all over the cage to make sure she couldn’t prevent him from eating, and keeping an eye out for a way to get them separated soon. i though i’d have at least a few months...

well, it came today. she is in a huge rubbermaid bin with a screen cover in my bathtub, so if she gets out of one the other will hold her. she has a uvb and cage carpet and a blanky and hide. if elvis makes it, i’ll have to try to find another cheap reptarium, because my beautiful girl is a bit of a beautiful bully.

elvis is bright-eyed and perky, eating and running around on the hammock and the sides of the cage: i think he might make it {crossed fingers}. he seems to be delighted that bossy big sis isn’t around.

i’ll leave him to himself, except to reapply ointment and watch for infection. he really doesn’t seem to need my help. maybe just being left in peace with the cage to himself will be the right thing for him.

surprisingly well. he’s a tough little guy. i’m waiting to hear back from susan about what antibiotic to use. i think baytril, but she knows more than i do, so i’d like it confirmed. he’s like nothing ever happened, still trying to escape. i told him the cat’s still here; he might be better to stay where he is.

 AGAIN!!!!!!

yes, i did. i dosed him with his supper. he didn’t appreciate it much, but he took it. while i had him out i cleaned his poor little wounds and applied new neosporin, which he took very calmly and well. i can see him across the room right now, peeking over the edge of his highest hammock.

lloydene, i’m proud of you.

i’m doing my best with him. fortunately, i always have a well-stocked critter first-aid kit on hand. i’d hate to have to order the baytril and wait. he is so very active and alert, i think he’s going to make it. now if i can just manage to keep the little monster in his cage until he’s a big enough monster to take care of himself. he’s a hard one, that’s for sure.

meanwhile the cat is following me around, meowing pathetically. he knew how much trouble he was in yesterday when i chased him out of the house. i saw him slink away from the kitchen the moment i picked elvis up off the floor. he was in the kitchen today when miss martie came in, and although he refused to leave, he’s not that dumb. i told martie, "if he looks at you cross-wise, knock the crap out of him." she will, too. she actually has a higher tolerance for the dogs than she does the cat.

now, sylvester is family, too...

donatello made it clear who was boss when he was only about a year and a half old. sylvester knows what those tails can do! martie didn’t have to swat him. i didn’t really think he’d push it, but i have to admit i wish he had.

 AGAIN!!!!!!

elvis is still with us. he’s climbing about and eating. it’s less stressful on him to just put his baytril in a tiny bit of baby food and give it to him for breakfast. he likes it, he eats it all, and i don’t have to be the bad guy who’s prying his tiny mouth open. i haven’t had him out yet today. it’s so risky! he is determined to escape. right now he’s poking his little nose all along the zipper; he knows it opens somewhere.

meanwhile, galadriel spent a huge chunk of the day on my shoulder. i don’t like her in the bathroom all by herself. when i went in to feed her later, after i’d put her back, i found her ON TOP of the bin, on top of her uvb. i’m going to have to give in and get the 55 back off the porch. she’s too much of a bully to be in with elvis, and too small for donatello’s cage. i don’t dare spend any money for a bit, so i guess it’s back to a tank for now.

NOTE: the words "tank" and "iguana" should never be used in the same sentence. this is a temporary home for a baby that weighs less than an ounce.
