 Let’s talk about mineral oil

It makes you skin soft, it’s great for tanning, its a wonderful laxative and it’s saved two of my sweet scaly babies! First poor Blackbeard was so impacted he couldn’t use his back legs( still bright eyed and bushy tail and everything but looked so pathetic trying to walk) and then it saved Levi from loosing all of his beautiful spikes! I feared I would never get the layers of stuck on shed he came to me with off, and lack of circulation would make them fall off like the tip of arokhs tail did right after I got him! I tried shed ease, shed aid, soakings, higher humidity and none of it worked but I tried the mineral oil and within two days I have all but one stubborn spike shed off!!! And I just rubbed more MO on that one so I’m confident it’ll be off by the end of the night!

This was before when I was trying the shed ease

And this is from today. Isn’t he handsome with his speckled spikes! They are even blue in the right light!

And I saved most of the spikes but four that fell in his water that he had just pooped in. I wasn’t fishing those ones out haha

The moral of the story is that you don’t need to buy OTC shedding sprays for tons of $$$ when you can get a pint of mineral oil for $1 that actually works!!! Just run on, wait a little, an the spikes just slide right off!!! So happy that my big boy won’t loose any of his beautiful spikes. It’s not often tou see an adult with all of them still attached.

Thank you Susan. I just love this big baby. How’s kismet doing? And I just popped off that last spike so now he is totally shed free. BUT I noticed his feet are turning lighter so let’s hope they are a lot easier to slough off lol. At least those don’t have a build up of old skin on them!

mineral oil is great stuff! when i shower with martie, i like to take some and rub her down with it while she’s still wet. it keeps her skin so nice and soft and pliable during and between sheds. i also use it on me.

and, when marty (the dog) had bloat so bad, it was what i gave him to help him pass whatever was in his system. my friend jill recommended it--she uses it on her horses (she has her own business giving carriage rides in downtown dallas) when they get colicky.

i think it’s the best and most versatile cheap household product since baking soda.

Milan , I have saved so many spikes from Maxine....I am going to have them placed in a leather medicine bag that my brother in law makes ...hand sewn Indian style with some other mojo tossed in....maybe Jesse’s claw from her cat....lol

They make a great rattle too....!!
