#2272432 Curlylambeau01 View Profile	Iguana Cage Hello everybody, I am new here and have a question about an iguana cage. I live in South Florida and have a screened patio, the patio is North facing and gets a little direct sun at sunrise and sunset, but remains completely shaded during the day. I am wondering if I could successfully use the patio as the cage for an iguana. My primary concern is of course the iguana’s health, obviously I would provide the iguana with plants, sticks, food, etc on the patio. My other concern is if the iguana would just easily rip through the screen and escape. Is this a setup that could work or am I just being a complete idiot here? Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

In my experience Iguana’s can tear through that type of material that is used for patios and such. I have...well had a screen door to out doors that I brought into the house for Allie (2 year old female Iguana) to climb on and she ripped right through it just trying to climb up it. So I am sticking with metal ’cloth’ to ensure Zane stays put when I need him to. My other concern would be lighting. Iguana’s need 10-12 hours of UVA and UVB lighting to help them in a multitude of ways.. I’m assuming the Sunrise and Sunset won’t be enough light to be healthy for your Iggy...but I could be wrong. I’m sure some of the veterans on here will know more about that. Feel free to ask any more questions you are concerned about! This is a very helpful group and have helped me through lots of things with my Iggy’s. Best of luck! -Makenzie

But I would def change the screening to something more substantial. My big boy tore out the screen to his bedroom window and jumped from the 2nd story window and was gone for two days. So they can most certainly rip through that in a heartbeat. I would also add the normal uvb and heat lighting you would put on a cage so he has the choice to use t if he wants. Also you may want to have an indoor setup ready incase you ever happen to get a cold snap. Let us know how is goes. This sounds like it will be interesting!

#2272461 Really View Profile	Message To: Milan   In reference to Message Id: 2272443  Iguana Cage Reinforce the screen with something heavier and still provide a basking spot. I think he’ll get enough UV, but it won’t hurt to add a supplemental spot.
