Goey tong! I usually keep a huge water container for my green iguana but I just found her almost dead. Totally weak and dehydrated. I found the water bowl full but the water was putrid. White bacteria and mold looks like. I gave her water with electrolytes and forced feed her and she seems a little better but her tongue looks nasty, goey and swollen. Like there’s a thick gel incapsulating the tip of her tongue. I’m thinking that the bacteria from the water bowl is now growing on her tongue? What can I do? Is any vet qualified to diagnose and treat her? I’m soooo upset right now. Thanks for your response.

Goey tong! You have to change their water daily or it will go bad. Mine gets changed twice because they poo in it in the morning. Please bring her to a vet. Also they dont go down hill over night, it takes weeks for a healthy ig to go as bad as you are saying. You should be checking on her daily anyways when you feed her and change the water.

Goey tong! Get her to a vet ASAP! Water must be changed at least once a day and the container scrubbed!

Goey tong! Brought her in. Vet was mad and offered to take her since she needed to be syringe fed and long term antibiotics and I couldn’t afford the medication. So she’s in good hands now.

Goey tong! Honestly you dont’ need to get another reptile, especially an iguana. It seems that you can’t provide the care that an animal needs. Sorry to be harsh but vets don’t take animals unless they have a really good reason. Part of owning an animal is being able to pay vet bills. The day after I got back from a vacation my dog was supposed to have puppies. She didnt and I ended up putting 2000 down for a c-section. This is all part of having animals. Again, please think twice about getting another animal.

Goey tong! the vet was 100% right to be mad. I never understand why people acquire pets they can’t or won’t take care of.
