I have a 60 watt UVB that is has an external ballast that comes on at 7:00 in the a.m and goes off at 7:00 p.m.. The UVB that comes off this one is about the equivalent to early morning UVB rays’ at 18 inches away. Then at 9:00 a.m. I have a 100 watt that comes on and goes back off at 4:00. This one gives the equivalence of full sun, or as much as these lights can, for those six hours at 12 inches away. Both of my girls have done wonderful on this system. Chris also has another type that is newly available, but I will let him tell you about those. |

Hey I am an old skool Mega Ray guy ...also Westron before that. Since they have both taken a step backwards I seek out new worlds and boldly go where no man has gone before. (cough) The latest reports from UVB METER OWNERS (yahoo groups) free to join and subscribe with Dr Frances Baines and all other public entities, including Bob Mac of Reptile UV ...aka Mega ray, state that ARCADIA light bulbs in the T-5 category are phenomenal. The desert 12% series of lamps are doing very well ...a distributor is finally here in the USA. The lamps and company are based across the pond, UK / Europe. They have T8 lamps as well but I am not paying to much attention to those. I was more interested in a MVB (mercury vapor bulb) self ballasted but they only have them in 220v ...possibly by the end of the year they might have 1 available for the USA 120v I have the links on my laptop...not here on Edel’s desktop. If you want them LMK. well that was EZ ... USA Arcadia light distributor ARCADIA I e mailed the folks here in the USA and they were very helpful. They will attempt to answer all your questions. Yes!! Westron was in the world of the original bulbs that eventually became known as the Mega Ray, as they merged to make the bulbs that we know as the MEGA RAY.. They had a good thing going until something started to go wrong with the bulbs. Manufacturing.. what ever.. us pee’ons will never know the whole truth. One side can give their story and the other theirs too. The way I understand it is that it was the standard practice to return your bulbs before new ones were sent out. This is when I was in the Mega Ray mode.. I did this a couple of times. Then it got to the point of they didn’t want the returns. This is when they went over seas to produce their bulbs and feel flat on their face for it. Now my understanding is that Westron, the main producer of these bulbs were the ones that wanted these bulbs returned so they could check them out to try and find out what was going on, but Mega Ray wasn’t sending them back. This would have been the time frame that I was instructed, by Bob personally that "it wasn’t necessary to do any returns". And after that I had a heck of a time getting any replaced or money back. This would also be the same time frame that the new ones were coming for across seas.. Westron set all of this on the back burner, as they felt they didn’t need this at the time. Then they started working on them again knowing that the market didn’t disappear. The same ones that you would of had when dealing with Mega Ray, but still having the same problems of bad bulbs, they continued their research, bad batches and all, and now have come up with what seems to be some good bulbs. So I guess what I am saying here is that, yes they were in the mix to begin with, but have worked their butts off to get past the old day’s and as I use them, they have done good. IMO, Westron should be treated like a new company that is offering good MVB UVB.. Doesn’t mean that I dislike the others, Just giving options.. |
