Oh man please tell me what this could be...

hey everyone, my younger iguana, harley has a lump in her tail i’d say about two inches from the base and it looks like a small pea underneath her skin on the top side. it makes her tail look crooked almost but it does’nt seem to hurt her,its a little softer than the rest of her tail i just realized it but i have her out everyday a least for a couple minutes, i don’t think it broken because i don’t think it hurts her and i’ve also dealt with MBD before and thats almost what it looks like but the iguana suffering from it only had those lumps on her joints and harley gets the proper greens and a full-spectrum uv light(slimline is the brand) and a regular like floodlight for heat although i dont think it gives off uv. she is extremely healthy otherwise but i never seen any thing like this and have no clue what it could be. she has’nt had her usaul huge appetite for about a week but i figured its just because the breeding season or because it winter time (all my igs are acting up). anyways please someone tell me what you think and i’ll try to get a good pic. of it and post it.

Yeah, get her in as soon as possible. It could be an abscess, in which a vet would need to treat. Could it be an injury of some sort?

I would take her to a vet asap...once their appetite diminishes I would take her to a vet. My iguana lost his appetite for several months and I took him to the vet...he was fine. We were lucky. Do you have a camera to show us what the lump looks like?

I would agree on takin her to the vet. I’m a new iguana owner but it sounds to me like if you don’t know then then it wouldn’t hurt for a vet visit. If you need any help just e-mail me...

Yeah...does sound like an abcess.

I have not heard of that UV bulb....is it made for reptiles specifically? They do only last 6months (giving out enough UV) so when you get another I’d suggest the Zoomed Iguana 5.0 light or the Powersun (mercury vapor bulb...more expensive but lasts longer/gives more UV).

How long have you had a Mercury vapor bulb?
I ask, I guess, because I have heard people debate about their safety - you know, the Mercury and all...
If you have used one safely for a long time, I would consider it, but I’m kind of one to go with the tried and true (like the ZooMed iguana lite)

P.S. There is no substitute for natural sunlight, so when summer hits, get ’em out there!

I’ve been using them for over a year now. I was hesitant at first as well and waited until they were out awhile. I still use the Zoomed 5.0 lights for my beardie and for Slee in emergencies. I started with T-Rex Active UV and wasn’t too happy with how many bulb losses I had so now I’m trying Zoomed’s Powersun. I’ve been using it since August and so far so good, but I would like to see it last a year before burning out. As far as health issues, I don’t think there is a problem. I don’t look at the light if at all possible for the UV rays. As far as mercury, I don’t believe I have a problem.

Oh man please tell me what this could be...

hey
i called the vet today and im going to take her. the light i’m using ive only had for about two months but i was already thinking about getting one of those mercury bulbs so maybe i’ll pick one up when shes due for the next one. the brand is actually ESU reptile and the product is called slimline, every reptiles magazine i have has ads for them. i really have no idea what happened i’m definetley not new to iguanas but i’m pretty worried. i don’t think its a injury or a break, she has’nt really been into anything to get herself hurt like that. everything i found on the internet has said that any kind of bumps or lumps is bad news and are usally abcesses caused by not being properly taken care of, and too much humidity and to much bacteria in the enclosure. harley is very well taken care of, a good mix of the right greens she has the right lighting and she does have a portable cage so when its warm out she gets alot of sun. i just don’t understand what happened but the vet will make it better. she has’nt stopped eating completey, just i notice there is more food left in her bowl than usaul i just figured because its colder outside and its breeding season but she is still eating. i’m not sure if i can get a pic of it because it is small and there is no discoloration but im going to try and then ill post them.
thanks alot

Yeah bumps can be a b****, I am glad that you are getting her in right away! It sounds like you are doing a really good job. I thought I was too, until my iggy, Josephine got a bump on her tail. We are treating it now. Actually the bump turned into several on the top of her tail. The first one went away and I thought she was better but then it spread. She is doing SUPER now. I am sure once the vet sees your baby, it will be better.

Good luck and let us know more.

Hugs,

Wendy
