Inferred lights Does anyone have any info on the inferred lights (the red ones)? I just bought one and wanted to make sure it was ok for my ig. What are the positives and negatives of them. thanks for any info.

Inferred lights I am no fan of those. It really depends how you are using them but in general I don’t think they give enough light for the day and give too much light at night. At night they need darkness and in the day they need it to be bright. So, they will provide heat but not UVB or bright light. If you are using it as a secondary heat light and already have a brightly lit cage with a uv light, they would be fine, but you might as well save money and just use a regular household bulb. Psychologically they are better for the reptiles and they are cheaper.

Inferred lights I tend to keep my red light on at the night to keep my Ig’s cage warm. It doesn’t seem to bother him. Once his other lights go out he tends to stroll up to his shelf where he likes to sleep and fall fast asleep. I have never had any problems with a red light being too bright at night for my Ig and I have had him for 5 years. I think what trogdor has said may be right in the fact that they cannot see right light, but I am not sure whether this applies to all reptiles or just some.
