 PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!!

Hey everyone I have a bit of an emergency. I went to work, at a pet store, today and saw they had gotten a CB Baby Iguana. It is about a month old or a little over. It was being caged with a Cuban Knight Anole Baby at the time.

From the looks of it, The Baby Iggy has MBD and is very Malnourished. The Anole beat up the Iggy and it has a huge gash on it’s wrist that has turned yellow-orange. It is very skinny but still breathing fine and is still alert.

I thought there might be a chance for this Ig so I brought him home. I also got Liquid Calcium Bone Aid, this Hydration drops that are used for shock, starvation, and other things. I also got little Iguana bites. I keep him fairly moist for he is very dry.

Is there anything else I can do to help this guy out? He isn’t eating right now but is drinking.

Thanks

By the Way, how many times should I give him the drops? And can I put Neosporine on his cut? And any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I will post pictures tonight hopefully!

Thanks, Zach

UVB/UVA lighting is important, since that’s probably how he got MBD in the first place (lack of UVB) the iguana bites food isn’t going to cut it, he need fresh greens, and a lot of them. My best advice is get him to a vet. Pronto.

He needs to be seen by a qualified herp veternarian ASAP. You will need him to properly treat MBD. Use providine-iodine 10% solution (Betadine) to clean the wound then you can use some triple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin) on it. Make sure it is only triple antibiotico--no other ingrediants.

Take Care
Marie

Let’s talk immediate problems, First a good Betadine bath, the color of tea for his overall damage. Then some Neo on his boo boo. Fresh greens whether or not eaten should be offered and clean clean water to soak in, Maybe a shoe box filled in his tank. Then schedule a vet visit just to get some antibiotic in his system. it won’t cost that much. our vet gave us some Cipro for $8 (for an abscess). And remind the store owners NOT to do this again.

Well I have done all of the above except book and appointment. He is actually doing much better by the way. But I might need to now that I have discovered yet another problem.

I am 100% sure he is CB, but he must have gotten mights from the anole. There are red little dots that are all over his body and make very dark spots on his arms and legs and tail. I know these are mights and stopping the circulation. Some of his fingers have turned blueish.

My question is what can I do about the mites without having to go to the vet. I honestly do not have that much time or money. It is $80 just to bring in the lizard. I do not want to sound cheap or inconsiderate, but I just don’t have the time or money right this second. I want to do as much as possible without taking him to the vet. What can I do for the mites? Thanks again! Everyone has been so nice!

how are you 100% sure he’s CB? i highly doubt he is CB. there’s a spray called "Reptile Relief" that works good to get rid of the mites. most pet stores have it, even a petco or petsmart. however, you really should bring him to the vet anyways. you should have planned on bringing him to the vet when you rescued him. $80 isn’t really that bad.

If he has this many health problems, you have two options: take him to the vet, or give him to someone who will, if you are unable or unwilling. Iguanas are expensive creatures, despite their $20 price tag. If you can’t afford a simple vet trip, you can’t afford an ig. Pure and simple.

Well I had gotten my paycheck when I went to work and I booked an appointment with the Vet. I am willing and can afford one do not get me wrong, I just did not have the time to get him there ASAP.

Unfortunately when I got home he had passed. So, I learned a lot from this experience and you people are very friendly and very helpful. I hope to write in this forum again but with better news.

Thanks again, Zach

I’m sorry about your ig. I would’ve posted a reply sooner, but I’ve had my hands full with work and taking care of my baby ig and the water dragon I rescued around a week ago. Where do you live? $80 just to have him looked at seems really expensive. I just had Midori (my ig) in to my reptile vet for a well-check for only $43, and this is a vet that I’m told is one of the best in my area, and I took a liking to him as soon as I walked in his door with my first reptile. If you get another iggy, try looking though the vets that this site has listed before making another appt. There should be one or two listed thats near you, but if not, I can send you a link that has like 29348562 reptile vets listed, lol.
