 Great News!!!!

Well I feel really bad about that Iggy. I did everything I could to get him better, but it didn’t work. I have found a cheaper vet so now I will have no problem making trips there or anything. I just got a raise so now I can put money aside for new herps and supplies and everything is looking good. My boss thanked me for working so hard so she got me present. She got me a Baby Ig.

When I was 10 I used to have an Iggy named spike and had him for 5 years. He grew up to be really healthy but had to give him away because me moved. So I have had experience with them before. Ever since that I fell in love with them and researched them for the past 2 years and just slaved over information. So now I have one and I am thrilled. It is a CB and has a clean vet check up. here are a couple pics of Guacamole!

Sorry this was long, just wanted to tell you guys the deal. I do have one question though...do hatch-lings always a little skinny but not too skinny? he is a little slender and sometimes he ribs stick out when he breathes, but is that the usual? I have looked through so many pictures and haven’t seen any ribs. Thanks again everyone!

He does look a bit thin. Is he eating well? Make sure you cut the food up tiny for him at that size. What diet are you feeding him and do you have a uv light and a heat light? What is the substrate?

Very important....get a FRESH fecal sample to the vet to check for parasites. He may need some meds. This could explain why he is so thin.

 Great News!!!!

Well he has a fresh vet bill, no parasites or anything. As soon as I brought him home he ate. I fed him thinly sliced collards, and dandelion greens. I sprinkled a little calcium powder on his food. he actually ate half of it. I have Bone Aid drops that I gave him, but I will only give him them once in a while, just to make sure he grows up really healthy. he has a basking light and a UVB Reptisun light. he is good to go and is looking good so far. Hopefully I can fatten him up. Thanks for promt responding. Anything else I should know about? I know a pretty great deal on what to do and stuff but is there any additional info that could help me raise him really healthy? Thanks!

I am sorry to hear the other one didn’t make it . I think it is great that your boss gave you another one for trying so hard with the other one . Sounds like you pretty much know what you are doing and will make a great iggy parent . Good Luck with him and let us know how he is doing !

Make sure he can bask closely to the uv light (and that there is no covering over it). Mist him and give him baths. It sounds like you have a lot of the bases covered. You can add more variety to your veggies and add a bit of fruit (mango/papaya/berries) to tempt him to eat more.....feed him as much as he likes. Good luck.

 Great News!!!!

Ok everything is doing good so far. he seems to be very spunky, a nice vibrant green and is eating like a pig. Actually I cannot really see his ribs anymore, only when he breathes heavily after I attempted to pick him up.

Should I just leave my hand in the tank until he gets used to it, and then start putting my hand near him until he gets comfortable, and then start petting him the cage until he is ok, and then pick him up in the cage, and the take him out. Are those the steps to getting used to being handling? Or is there a certain age that you can start doing that. Cause when I put my hand in his cage, Day 5, he still spazzes out.

Thanks

Leave your hand in the cage and move very slowely sliding your hand under him, holding him about eye level and petting his back. make your you keep him away from your face.
