Capture the sun bulb bummer

First of all, I don’t want anyone to think that I am bashing this company, but I wanted to share the experience I had so anyone else can be ready for the possibility. I purchased 2 capture the sun bulbs from bigappleherp.com. Unfortunately, one of the first 2 was defective and never came on(In fact there was a shiny metal disc loose in the bulb) They did quickly send me another bulb, that one lasted for 4 days(10hrs on, 14hrs off) then burned out. When I called them again, they told me I had to send the defective bulb back insured, traceable and prepaid. That kinda bummed me out. I can understan they don’t want to keep sending bulbs out to people that may be lying to them. On the other hand, I don’t see why I have to pay to fix their problem. The price was right, they were $31.45 each(10% discount when you buy more than one). The people were very courteous, and told me they would send another replacement, but I decided not to risk getting another. So, hey live and learn, we all know shipping lightbulbs is rsky, but I think I will go with the zoomed powersun from now on, I have heard more success stories about them.

I think all the bulbs have problems. I use T-Rex and had some problems, but hadn’t had any lately, I know people using power sun with great success, but I also have a friends who’s bulb blew out after 1 month. I never tried capture the sun bulbs. I guess it is possible to get a bad batch in. PE

Well Gilbert, thanks for the headsup... I’ll stay away from those since I’ve had my fair share of bad luck with T-Rex already and got sick of shipping stuff back too. If my Powersun doesn’t last, I don’t know what I’ll do! It is my last hope. So far so good. |

We are sorry to hear that you had a problem with the Capture The Sun Bulb. Our current early burn out rate is under 1%. This is well under the current early burnout rate of any bulb on the market. I would consider your experience unusual but we are always striving to get closer and closer to 0% early burn out by constantly attempting improvements to our bulb. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced with our bulb. Our bulbs are well established in the reptile industry and are currently being used in major zoos, museums and by well known breeders in the reptile industry. Thank you for your time.

Hey Andy, I have a question for you. How come they don’t make UVB bulbs in smaller wattages then 100 watts.? I have smaller cages where 100 watt bulbs would be too hot, especially around summer time. I know I could use the florescent tubes, but I have been having better results with the UVB bulbs. Also could you give us a deion of the Capture The Sun Bulb as far as distances of the uvb rays, heat range from common cage distances, etc? Thanks in advance Andy. PE
