when we first got our baby we put him in a 50gallon! not to sure if u can go smaller but thats what we started with! and yes u need to feed it veggies..i.e collard greens mustard greens bok choy and theres tons more that u can find in the care sheets! when we first got our ig we also mixed a little bit of ig pellet things in just to fatten him up and took him off of them once he was healthy! where do u plan on getting him from? i would suggest a vet apt asap! we got ours from petco but luckly no bugs! we also put calcium powder on his food 3 times a week and multivitams 3 times a week!
well if u have any more questions please ask!

i’m probably getting it at petco because my petco is real clean.a herpetologist works in the reptiles and takes great care of them.i’v checked out their animals and no bugs and they look real healthy.

i have read on people building outside enclousers but not for a permanent(sp) home just for a little time in a day...if it gets to hot u could cook them or if it gets to cold u could freeze them! there tanks need to be taller then longer so they dont take up that much room IMO. my ig free roams for most of the part but only when were home and has to stay in his tank at night! if hes big enough u can let him free roam as long as he is tame u have iggy proofed ur home and theres not like other pets around to hurt him or for him to hurt! u would also have to have a basking spot and humidity for him so id recomend just building an inside enclousure! hope that helps......ps with inside enclousers he can also be out alot as long as u have iggy proofed ur home!

The size of hte cage does need to be about 2-3 times the length of the ig all the way around, though I think you can make it as small as 1x the length of him when it comes to the cage’s depth.

Not unless you can find a REALLY big one. Cage-type enclosures aren’t ideal, anyway, because they make it harder to keep the humidity levels right, and igs have been known to hurt themselves on them (getting claws caught, etc. We have Julius in one temporarily, because we are still building his permanent enclosure, and had to jump through all sorts of hoops to make it work for him. You’ll probably find that building rather than buying is the way to go because it can be prohibitively expensive to purchase a suitably sized and outfitted enclosure. Free-roaming is a possibility, if you know what you’re doing and are able to supply adequate basking areas and proper humidity. Many people just retrofit a room in their home for their iguana, and that ends up working well. It’s really up to you.
