Hey Hylan,

Congrats on your new iguana.

First lets get your diet straighten out. Most othe foods you are giving your iguana are pretty good. I would take out the spinach, stay with collards, turnip greens, mustard greens, watercress, and some butternut squash. Here is a food list you can referecnce Iguana foods. Zuchinni is good for a treat as well as the fruits you listed above.

The white stuff around its nostrils..most likely that is normal...mine has it too, most iguanas do. Thats there way of removing salts from their bodies. However if it is mucous..then a vet should take a look at it, but from what you described sounds normal.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

PE

I agree with PE on diet and possible causes of white stuff. I am leaning toward it being excess salt build up...he’ll squirt it out of his nose and it should leave dots and drips around the cage. I call it "snalt"!

what about the water?? how can i tell if hes drinking or not?

also any tips on taming him? i brought his cage out to my living room now so he sees more people but he/she still scared of my hand...
i try to pet him and stuff to get him used to me but most of the time he freaks opens his eyes real wide, stands up high etc... tries to whip me...
how do i get him to not be scared of me petting him? and afterwards picking him up??? any suggestions?

I think I’ve seen my iguanas drinking like twice. It’s not uncommon to never see them drink but they will occasionally. As for taming, well that’s gonna take some time. You should take him out of his cage slowly and hold him for several short periods of time throughout the day. There are several tricks you can try to get him to get used to your smell like leaving one of your worn shirts in his cage. I think Xta had recommended that. I haven’t tried it though. Vicious is still pretty vicious but she’s getting a little more tame than before.
