 Midori’s Almost Great Escape

So. I took Midori out tonight to work with her. Was hand-feeding her and holding her and things seemed to be going well; then I reached down to get another piece of food, and my grip on her loosened microscopically. BOOM. Bye bye iguana. Across the reptile drawer, almost out the door, makes a 90 degree turn and disappears behind my dresser. I tried to reach her for 10 minutes, but I’m not small enough to squeeze under my dresser, and she somehow managed to climb the wall until I couldnt even see her from under the dresser anymore. I finally had to go get my dad to help me move the dresser. Thankfully, we ended up sticking a yardstick back there and scaring her out; she zoomed right across dad’s foot, no less. Cornered her under my blanket and managed to get her back in her tank. EEGH! Freaky, freaky iguana. Moral of the story? Loosen your grip on your wiggly little friend only if you want to witness a green bolt of lightning disappearing into impossible-to-reach places. (Any tips on taming and handling would be greatly appreciated!!!).

Taming comes in time and trust from your iguana from what I have been told . I have one here who will try to escape IF s/he can ! I had em outside the other day the UVB index was high and thought it would do em good. I had a harness and leash on em and all was fine that day too . Until lunch time came around and I went to reach for em and s/he slipped the harness ! I thought I was going to die s/he raced to the closet tree of course and I was afraid to grab em cause the tail was the closest thing I could reach . ( of course I didn’t go for the tail it is all still there ) I did finally get em and got em back in his/her enclosure . then had to sit and wait to see how long it would take me to stop shaking and get my heart back in my chest ! I know how you felt .

Lol. sorry about that just thought it was funny, so ill tell you a funny story, one day i had my iggy out, and i have my lip pierced, so he runs up my leg, up my shirt and clamps on the ring, and dangles there from the ring. it hurt a bunch, but you know, have to take it. And you can by a harness leash for him or her, it works wonders because they cant get to far. there like 13 dollars but way worth it

LOl I saw belly rings in the shape of iguanas but not lip rings! We built a new cage from a dog cage and Eisa found out that we had not finished covering the top-ran out of ties. So most of the day was spent trying to block the open sections of top and chasing her when she DID get out. Course they always have this look after we catch them like, "Boy that was COOL!. I can’t WAIT to do it again!"

You are lucky because you take a big risk having your ig break off the leash outside. You never know when they will get spooked and run off.

When Slee was young, he got away and hid behind the cabinets in our apartment kitchen. It freaked me out but I had to wait for him to come out on his own, which luckily was a couple hours later. Block off dangerous areas and places that are hard for you to reach.
