hi. i’m not Xta (duh) but can help you answer this question: first, make sure you are going to a vet who specializes in reptiles; a herp vet. this is very important. if you do find the right vet than you won’t need to tell him what to look for as far as problems. second, have a fecal test
(fresh sample) done for parasites and other detectable illnesses. have x-rays done to be sure bone density is healthy, and check for any internal problems. this should be done once a year as well as bloodwork for overall health, and can help identify kidney problems, blood calcium or vitamin inbalances, or other bloodbourne illnesses. he should also of course inspect your iguanas skin for problems including dehydration, mites, etc.

I agree with iluviggy. Most people don’t get bloodwork or x-rays every year but you should get a blood test once when you do think your ig is healthy so you have those baseline numbers. Then later if you think your ig is having problems, get another and the vet can compare. If your ig eats inanimate objects, get regular x-rays. EVERYONE should get fecals at least 2x per year in my opinion. That is very easy and can show a variety of parasites/worms. So the minimum is to get your ig checked out by a good reptile vet so you establish yourself as a patient...then you should be able to bring in fecals and not need an office visit after that. If you suspect your ig is sick or injured, then you would want to go see the vet. With my vet, I bring in a fecal and they give me meds with no office visit needed since he knows I go in for a visit 1x per year at least. I bring fecals in anywhere from 2-4x per year depending if I suspect something.
