What 2 do Personally, I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone who neglects animals. If I were in your position, I wouls tell them streight up that their ig is in extremely bad condition and will die if the conditions aren’t changed soon. I’d offer to help them build and set up a new enclosure and give advice on feeding. I’d also offer to take the lizard if they no longer want it. If they refused to do anything, or ignored me, I’d remind them that animal abuse and neglect is a felony and they could be severly charged or even be given a jail sentence if convicted along with having the animal removed. Then I’d threaten to call animal control or ASPCA if they do not either provide that ig the proper living conditions or give it to me or a rescue.
I know it sounds a little harsh, but I’ve done it before. That’s one thing I will not put up with is animal abuse. Friend or not friend.

What 2 do We have a friend who was showing off her new bearded dragon to us: It was everything I could do to not slap her, as her (too small) beardie ran around on his calci-sand, tumbling over his hot rock. She didn’t have UVB on him, and was feeding him lettuce. She wasn’t doing badly by him on purpose-- she honestly didn’t know. I gently directed her to this website and one other I frequent. I told her I recently had done some reasearch which made me change my setup (this was BS, but it made her feel like less of an idiot), and offered to help her do the same. The next day I arrived on her doorstep with the proper lighting and a piece of reptile carpet in hand. We cut the cord off the hot-rock and used it for decoration in his new digs.
Whatever you do, don’t go in like the SWAT team yelling and lecturing, that just gest people on the defensive, and they’re very unlikely to change. Maybe you and your dad can "gift" them with a new cage?

What 2 do i agree w/ ferndalezoo. however, i am sure they are aware that leaving poop all over the cage is not proper care. try to be patient and "teach" them the right husbandry methods first... if that doesn’t work, then you might need to get raw on them and let them know that what they are doing is abusive and neglectful, and very seroius to you. i hope you can help the poor guy. let us know what hppens!

What 2 do Good advice from fernadalezoo....it’s hard but people are not responsive if you think they are doing a bad job. You catch more flies with honey.
