he is going to trun a whole room into their room, he wants to put substrate on the floor, hang lights from the ceiling, and put things all around for them to climb on, well thanx for reading this

New look at the care sheets on this site as well as the melissa kaplin links
breeding iguanas is hardly fair on the animals many of them end up unwanted because they are too big and end up in rescue centres or end up dying through neglect.

New do NOT breed iguanas, please! they are the most neglected and unwanted reptiles around. they are frequently "throwaway pets" once they reach a certain size. most people would agree w/ me that breeding is cruel as it produces more of these animals that most people will not care for properly. please adopt through a rescue first.

New Do not breed! They are a throw away pet. Just read about all the unwanted, neglected iguanas dumped half-dying or mean as h&ll on the doorstep of rescues. They are a difficult breed that is too big and aggressive for most people. Iguanas have way too many eggs...and you can get an iglet for $5.

New well my friends iguanas lays eggs, i just want t successfully incubate them, if i do do so then im the one responsible for them, i have no intention on giving them to a home where they will be neglected or abused, or even thrown away, also i was planning on keeping a few myself. and i will definatley never ever just throw away any reptile, i dont care how aggressive or big it gets, but i will do the reasearch on the care sheets as you guys suggested.

New Your friend should separate his iggies, and/or have one or both spayed or neutered, and then you wouldn’t have an issue. It is very irresponsible to breed them. If you want an iguana, there are plenty at rescues and shelters.

New You cannot (as no one can) possible house that many iguanas (unless you are talking about only incubating a few). I just don’t understand why anyone would incubate the eggs...breed something that other people want. If you want a baby, you can buy or rescue a baby iguana. There is no need to make more. Look here...pick one...most are going to die anyway!

New Wow! That’s horrible. All those poor little baby iggies. I agree. Don’t breed. destroy those eggs while you can. Iguanas seem to be very popular, but very few are ever given proper care regarding diet, enclosure, heat, and light. And I agree with Xta, if you want a baby iggy, just adopt one.

New yeah that really is horrible. even if you wanted to it would be virtually impossible to care for that many igs. they grow to be 6 feet, take up a lot of room, require very specific diets, heat and humidity levels, and not to mention will kill you on electricity costs. special bulbs and uvb devices, etc. don’t forget vet visits, food costs, etc. they are the most complicated and difficult reptile to have as a pet.

New An iguana farm....it’s where all the igs come from you see in the pet stores. Many die in transport, others in the pet stores, still more once people bring them home, and then even more once people give them improper care. The few that make it often end up in rescues or released outside. Only a handful get good forever homes. It is very sad indeed. I don’t know exactly what country the photos are from....probably somewhere in Central or South Amercia...or possibly Mexico.

I was never gonna get an iguana because of the special needs i only took in snakes. well I got a call on one that was going to be put down it had a broken leg so we have her then another one that people were injecting stuff into so we have her. and now we are getting a male as soon as we covert are patio. Three iguanas that had no homes and there are hundreds more for each person on the planet. Honestly when is the madness going to stop.

New Wow! The saddest part is that they are hatched in such huge quantities because the farmers expect such heavy losses. Imagine the cost of running a farm like that if they all grew to adult size.

New Probably not many will be there when they are adults .
Death plays the greatest part then selling them to stupid pet stores takes care of the rest. That picture should be shown to every pet store owner and customer.

New Those are the worst pictures I have ever seen. To think that I got mad that someone put Sammy out in the woods to die. I am truely speechless over those pics. I cant believe that we live in a world like this. For all those of you out there that save iggys, hats off to you. For those that do like those pictures showed, they should have to live like that for the rest of their lives. Poor babies. Bruce, I am glad that you made the choice not to breed or incubate eggs. The market for iggys is great but unfortunately people have no idea what they are getting into when they go to a pet store and buy one. I read statistic that said " for every 100 iguanas shipped 60 survive the trip. Of that 60 almost 20 will die before they ever reach a home and once at home 30 will die in the first 3 months." That leaves 10 survivors, sad thing is the article went on to say that of those 10 that find homes and survive the first three months only 3 will live happy healthy lives with one family for a long time. So sad 100 babies and only 3 get a good home, healthy diet and love. Well Sammy may not have been one of the lucky three but she is now. Horay for those who make an effort to change the odds for these little guys.
