Be a bit more specific....what would you like to know exactly? Some good books are James Hatfield’s Iguana Manual and Melissa Kaplan’s Iguanas for Dummies.

For a diet you want to aim for a 2:1 calcium/phosphorus ratio. Here is a link to a very good diet guideline including the calcium/phosphorus contents of each. Link . For all my igs, their main diets consist of dark leafy greens like collard greens, endive, escarole, kale, dandelion, and mustard greens with butternut squash and some other foods from the above chart thrown in for variety.
Green iguanas can grow to be aroung 6’ long and 20 lbs. Here is a growth chart that estimates how large a green iguana would be according to it’s age. Link Of course, this chart is only a guideline and actual sizes will vary according to how the animal is cared for and sex among other things. Males are typically larger than females.
When it comes to enclosures, bigger is better. Green iguanas are aboreal creatures and like height over floorspace so something that allows them to get to a position over your eye level will reduce stress levels and make them happier. As for width and depth, I believe the minimum calculation is something like 1.5 times the length of the lizard for the width and half it’s length for the depth.
There is so much more to the proper care of these animals such as proper temperatures, humidity, UVB lighting, photoperiods, and vitamin supplementation. I would suggest reading as much as possible and apply the knowledge you gain to the care of your pet. You’ve started at a good place though. Below I have put together a list of some excellent sources of information. Most of the information is redundant on the sites or very similar with slight variations but you may understand one site’s explanation of something better than another.

The Green Iguana Society Link
The Iguana DenLink
Melissa Kaplan’s Green Iguana Care Link

*Melissa Kaplan is also the author of ’Iguanas for Dummies’. Another excellent resource for green iguana care information and great to have around for a reference when needed.

Welcome to the site and good luck with your new friend.

 I’m New!!

Sathane, well you have added yet another site to my favorites. LOL thanks for the tips for this newby. I got alot from it, after reading your first link, I found that half what Sammy gets every day is on the occasional list, back to the grocery for me, and Sammy will endure yet another change in her diet. Ya know I think that she gets more attention these days than my own children, but then again I know what they should be eating!!! lol now if I can just get them to eat what they should be eating. Anyway to our newby: Welcome, I joined just a few months ago and well all I can say about this group is THEY ARE GREAT. Sammy and I were fighting over foods and she was not gaining any weight, now I have a wonderful iggy that is fattening up just right. My thanks goes to this group that took the time to help and we cant wait to here all about your baby’s growth and things that go on. If you are new to iggys, let me warn you, they will keep you entertained for hours if you let them. Glad you joined and cant wait to see pics of your baby.

 I’m New!!

When I first got my iggy I didn’t hardly know anything about them . You don’t have to go out and get a book if funds are tight right now . You have the internet and anymore there isn’t anything you can’t find out from there . I did a major search on them and learned alot . I found some misleading info too but took what the majority of them said and went from there . Ex :

Feed baby iguana’s crickets ! I know better then that and just tossed that info aside as everywhere else would tell you NOT too .

My adivse to you is start looking things up on here and you will learn ALOT ! And ask questions and we can also help you out .
