Godzilla, my 6/7 (maybe more) years old male that has been in his breeding season for the last 5 months finaly got me today!He bit my fingers while i was treating him!!
As i didnt have time to take care of him during the last weeks (too busy at work) i took him today, with the help of a towel , to check his injuries.Immediately he became bright orange and started to behave like a snake, read to attack!I put him in his bath and while i was bathing him i gave him the towel to bite.I always do that to distract him and stop him from biting me.After the bath i covered his head and took him to my daughter’s room (the most sunny of the house)to check his bobos. I saw that one of his hands had a kind of a strange rough skin like a callosity but it could not be a callosity because with the warm water the rough skin became soft and went away and i saw that there was no skin left under the callousity, only flesh with blood and it looked swollen.What is that? It was not pus, looked lumpy.I took out the rest of the rough skin and spread Betadine on the flesh. Then i took the towel from his head and started to spread Betadine on his snout injuries.The process was (i think) very painful because i needed to take out the dead skin, the crust of pus and in general when i treat his snout with one hand, with the other i keep his mouth closed to avoid him from biting me.But he looked so calm and confident and as i needed to use both hands to clean the injuries and to spread the Betadine i left his mouth free. Well, he turned his head and bit me.Really bit me!!As i know you cannot try to force your fingers out of an iguana mouth, while he is biting you, because that will tear your flesh, i didnt move.I left both my fingers inside his mouth while i took a scissors and put in his mouth.He bit me again when he felt the scissors but after let me go.I hid my hands in the towel hoping i still would have my 5 fingers after this adventure!! After a few minutes (i needed some time to recover myself!) i took my hand out of the towel and looked at my fingers.Well, they still are here and to be sincere the bite was not soo deep.My motorcross accidentes were far worse than that!lol! I dont think Godzilla wanted to get me!He wanted to bite the towel again and when he noticed it was me he got instead( i noticed ,by his eyes)he was sorry.
When THOR bit me one year ago on the neck (my neck) he didnt let me go and i saw by his eyes that he was very happy to be able to bite me. Godzilla was not.He could have cut my fingers out so angry he was with me escaving his injured nose!!But he didnt and my fingers are not so bad.I still can move them!LOL! Of course, my daughter’s bed and the towel are covered with blood (RH-type A) but the cuts are not very deep. After that i put him in his cage and i completely covered his cage.Like that he will not be able to see us again and will stop his attacks against the doors.And will stop hurting his snout.The injuries got infected because i could not treat them the last few weeks and the holes became very deep! I still love my baby and i do want him to become normal again because he looks very sad, closed like that, without being able to see anything, not even us, but what else can i do? I had already covered 3 of the 4 walls of his cage because of the sun.Today i covered the last one and from now on his cage became a closet, without any view!
