Question for eyespy or anyone else that can answer it
Since you know all about toxic reptile products...is the ’reptarium’ piping toxic just as pvc piping? Basically is it the same thing or not? I read all kinds of things about it. PE

Re: Question for eyespy or anyone else that can answer it
I believe the piping is made from ABS plastic, but I’m not positive. Never seemed to have any toxicity problems and I’ve been using the things about 5 years now. My budgies even hang out on Amazon’s Reptarium and chew on the pipes and birds are way more sensitive to toxins than herps, and I haven’t seen any ill effects thus far. Pixel recently had runny stools and we got bloodwork done to check liver functions and those came out fine. Usually if there’s a toxicity problem liver functions are off. Why don’t you drop Apogee an email and see what they have to say? The email on their highly non-informative web site is rept@qwest.net.

I heard that apogee was out of business. I seen on a couple of sites that items are out of stock cause of them going out of business, but then I seen zoo-med reptariums. I know that site has like zero information there. What about pvc piping. Thats poisonous right? Thanks eyespy PE

Well I hope PVC isn’t because that’s what we’ve been using in Slee’s cage for a couple years! He seems okay, although some of it is covered by plastic runner material.

I was going to build a cage out of it too. I do have a bit of it on some cages. I wasnt sure about when pvc gets heated up also. PE

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Question for eyespy or anyone else that can answer it
I’ve heard mixed reports on PVC and don’t really know who to believe. Any plastic is made from petroleum and all petroleum products outgas some level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when heated. Most are tiny, almost impossible to measure amounts and are considered safe enough to use without safety restrictions. PVC is considered safe enough to use for human medical devices so it’s my belief that any risks are minimal if a good grade of plastic is used.

I also heard conflicting stories...One of course is from green peace. I’m thinking to be on the safe side to just use aluminum to build my cages. Probably be more expensive but it will also look nicer then pvc. Thanks PE
