Transportation and heat/ cage issues
another question, guys: if i were to move, my cage will not be able to fit through my door. How do I keep iggy while rebuilding the new cage? do any of you have any experiences w/ moving that can help me? i’m not planning to go anywhere, but i want to be prepared for the future. last time i moved, iggy was very small and lived in a fish tank that i could carry around.(GOD.. THEY GROW QUICK!) Now the second q is when i bring my ig to the vet, i plan to do so when the weather is warm, but what if you have to go in the winter? I plan to use a cat carrier to carry iggy, cuz i cannot see me putting her in a pillowcase or anything like that. Any suggestions? |

I recently moved four months ago, it was about a 12 hour ride in winter. I bought a 50 gallon rubbermaid bin, put in some towels, drilled holes in the lid and sides, and taped the lid down. My iguana is fine today and adjusted to his new home better then I am. Some people did recommend putting them in a cloth bag that is breathable. Last time I put my iguana in a pillow case, he ripped it to threads. PE

If you have to take your ig to the vet in the winter, just use a bin or carrier and a hot water bottle or camping heat packs....they sell them at sports stores or camping stores. You can keep him in the bathroom while you rebuild the cage.

hello well i have a baby iguana and we just made a move from wi to nj and well his cage fit in the truck but we did to keep him warm was but a car converter from wal mart that allows you to plug a regular ac out lit into a cigarette lighter and bought a human heating pad this would work great for you if you were to transfer your igggie and you could still keep him warm or youcouuld plug anything else into it if you have any questions fell free to ask

Well, Ive never had to take my igg any further then from the reptile store to my house. But if for any she must be out and about for more then just a few hours Ill do for her what i do for my beardies. all but 4 have their own little "suit cases". The bottem is lined with reptile carpet and under that I stick one of those disposable heat pads (you can pick ’em up at almost every drug store) you know the ones you stick on and they last like 12 hours or so some are 4-8 depends on the kind you get. just be sure to read the lables. (tip stick the pad to the under side of the carpet so you can just throw it all out at once and you wont have to spend time scraping it from the bottem of your enclosure. they are really sticky).Ill post a pic if i ever get a new camera. i even broke the bad one side note: is it okay for me to just use a harness and leash to take my igg to the vet. i live sorda closeto the beach in SoCal so it never gets really cold out here, but it does rain and get its share of muggy days.

Personally I’d use a carrier for an iguana. They can get kind of funny in the car sometimes...and possibly cause an accident. The only way I would not use a carrier (for a proven well behaved iguana who rides well in cars) is if I were the passenger holding onto the ig the whole time to keep him out of danger and away from the driver. Even then, if the ig is a bit crazy, this is not advised. I speak from experience on that one!
