New iguana owner need advice please

im a new iguana owner and its 2 years old. it trys to whip me and it spits at me and it squrms A LOT. my frend came over and taught me how to clip her nails and he taught me to force feed her. she hasn’t been eating at all and i dont know why. i would realy apreciate some help with her. she is in a 16 gallon tankand the tale is getting thin. this is realy scaring me cuz i know that a thin tail means a sick iguana. i also have a dog and two cats in the house. i need help so pleas GIVE IT TO ME!(please) (:

I would say you need to take a trip to a qualified herp vet. Try herpvetconnection.com or arav.com to find one in your area if you don’t have one already. She may have parasites so take a very fresh stool sample in with you.

How long have you had her? Do you have a UV light? A heat light? Do you have calcium? What is your diet?

Her cage is far too small. She will need a HUGE enclosure, not an aquarium.

Get James Hatfield’s Green Iguana Ultimate Owner’s Manual. It’s a great book. Try ebay or amazon.

Good luck...it will take awhile to have her settle in and become tame but you need to make sure she is healthy too.

How are you going to sell a sick iguana? I think you should find her a good home where the people are going to give the iguana the care and medical treatment that it needs. I honestly cannot picture a 2 year old iguana in such a small tank. Even a bearded dragon needs a bigger tank then a 16 gallon.

If you do not have room for the iguana, by all means find a good home, but I wouldn’t sell her. Just give her to a good person that will take care of her.

I’m glad to hear she is eating...and that you are working on a new cage. Don’t forget the UV and heat light.

That is good, but you said that you don’t have room for a large cage, so how large is it going to be?
