 Adopt or buy

I always advise to adopt when it comes to iguanas. There are so many great iguanas that need homes.

i know i feel bad for them. but i don’t know if i should get one some are so sick that they die and cant be helped and i don’t have any little guys up for adoption in connecticut. and i want a little guy so i can watch him grow

but i want to adopt because they don’t have homes and with adopted igs i feel youd have a REALLY special bond because you rescued/adopted it.

im having a really hard time deciding

 Adopt or buy

I wrote more on your other post but you are right about the adopting thing. I was closer to the iguana I adopted. There is no guarantee of bonding (to the degree you would like) with any iguana and sometimes the rescues live longer than the others. It depends on the iguana (the genes) etc. And, not all rescues were treated badly before they were given up. Sometimes people have treated them well but need to find a good home because they are having a baby or getting shipped off in the military, going to college, etc.

 Adopt or buy

Well I adopted my Iguana Spike in January and that is my first iguana.

I am happy I did that even if like you I wanted to have a baby and see him grow.

Spike is only 3 and a half so I will see him grow some they grow till about 5 years old.

I know I made a good choice they are so many in need of a good home I’m glad I gave one a chance and he is doing fine the adjustment has been easy and he enjoy having a big enclosure now and having free roaming in my office.

He made positive change since I got him and this is probably because of his new improved environment.

If you want you can check this site Green Iguana Society to find one to adopt this is how I adopted Spike

 ADOPT...

adopted iguanas are less likely to carry diseases than are the ones you find it pet stores (WC’s). If you adopt an iguana you pretty much save a life and discourage pet stores to stock iguanas.

 Adopt or buy

Although you are right that they all need saving...petstore iguanas and rescues...the problem is that they cannot all be saved. So you really don’t want to encourage the problem. By buying a petstore iguana, you are giving money to the store to buy another one in his place....will you rescue that one too? Soon you will have thousands of iguanas and the petstore will be rich but they will buy that many more! So, if you get one from a petstore for FREE...that is the same as rescuing one. You do often have to pay for rescues from a shelter or rescuer but that is to try to help them pay for medicine and food to heal them or take care of them. (they usually call it an adoption fee and it never is enough to cover the money they have already spent on that iguana!)

So the next time you go into that petstore and see the suffering iguanas, stay strong, and remember that there are many others who also need homes. But, if you feel strongly, convince the petstore to give him to you.
