 Calcium supps

my iguanna wont eat calcium supplements or whatever unless i mix his favorite snack(peeled red apples) in w/ it... how often to i give him supplements? is it ok to give him red apples that often? i thought it was like a sneack only but he wont eat the greens if i sprinkle the vitamins on or whatever... any tips/or advise would be helpful thanks in advance! PS: i heard the best pick-up line ever on radio today... thought i might share it... the guy said "Hey mind if i hang out over here till its safe where i just farted?" ok im wierd but i thought it was funny =P

You may want to try a different brand just to test that out. I like Rep Cal but there are a variety out there. What greens are in your salad everyday? If you have a good enough salad filled with calcium rich greens, you can get away with just giving the apple treats a couple times per week with the calcium on them. The greens should cover the rest of your ig’s intake unless he/she has MBD.

well i dont think hes got MBD hes got a healthy supply of collard/mustard greens w/ some bean sprouts and squash on the side... on a regular basis so i think twice a week apple/supplements sounds good thanks for the tip

Whoa Whoa!!! ur supposed to feed them supplements i never give it to them unless they seem sick to me. I didnt know they r to have it daily.

There is somewhat of a debate on that. Since people don’t always have great diets, extra calcium supplements are a good idea. I use them now and then because I have them. I would get some just to have it handy at least, and if you have it you might as well use it 2x per week at least. If you are slacking on the diet (which I don’t recommend doing, then use calcium every day). I get blood tests yearly to monitor my iguanas calcium levels. So far mine have been fine but if you don’t get the tests, it’s better to error on the side of giving more calcium. Technically a calcium rich veggie diet and a good uv light should give them nearly enough, however.
