 Go to sleep already!

i posted a question here a while back about the harm done by not giving my ig her 12 hours of daylight, 12 hours of night. i was only giving her 9 hours of night because i would turn the lights off when i went to sleep. since then, i have been trying to gradually work my way up to 12hours of night, but Iggy won’t go to sleep! worse than that is that i have to give her dinner way earlier now so she can bask for a while, then turn the lights out, but she has this really wierd habit now. (for a few weeks.)
i feed her in the morning. when i come home she hasn’t eaten yet, but when i get in the door, she looks at me, then heads fore the food. so when i feed her dinner she’s sometimes not hungry! (unless there’s treats involved, then she’ll eat anytime!)her appetite is good, it’s just the timing. any ideas on what i can do, and why she’s waiting for me to come home before eating?

No...we’ve been having similar problems with Sleestack lately. Maybe they want the company!

Reading the thread I immediately think "Seperation Anxiety"! However I don’t really know if iguanas are capable of that. Like I mentioned in another post, my iguana does act funny if he does not have me around. Do you have your iguana’s lights on a timer? How old is your iguana?

But he doesn’t have that "I’m going to bite you and tail whip you until you bleed" look either... haha, oh danzig is such a joy.... I have no clean blankets because he keeps pooing on them!

sleestack biting the pumpkin is classic! all he was thinking was that it was orange so it was probably a fruit... or else he would not agree to wear the costume!

He could tell it was similar to squash...(from his tongue flick) so then he wanted to eat it! He tried to eat a huge pumpkin I stuck in there with him too.

hai ;) i read on the net once that you should only pick your ig up if you can spend at least a full 30 minutes with her. especially when she is not used to being touched or has demonstrated not liking it. cos by the time you get past her panic attacks to actually having her stop the crocodile rolls and relax into your hands, that’s when you can start the stroking + show her that picking her up can be associated with good treats too. that often takes a good 10-15mins.

unfortunately, more often than not iguana keepers just put their iguanas down or away when they behave badly, and then the ig learns that as a stimulus to getting "let go"... just behave badly.

made sense, i tried it, and it has made my ig such a baby now... she solicits cuddles at times. still feisty but she likes being picked up now.

speaking of gator rolls, you should see what my arms look like right now... i put a new shelf in Iggy’s cage, and I think he is assuming dominance over me since he’s way above me now. I had to take him out to give him a bath, and i had a rough time getting him down. (HE’S GOT SOME GRIP!)once down and in my hands, i got the scratching of a lifetime, a tailwhip and a lot of "puff puffing". I refused to put him down, because i really don’t want him to do it again, but it got to the point where his mouth was a little open (bad Iggy!!) and i was very mad, so i held him below me and looked at him, and just kept saying "stop it" in a very firm, low voice.eventually, it worked, but looking back i really should have been wearing gloves.(should’ve trimmed those claws, too!) i am very badly scratched. it looks like a dog bit me up. i put him in the tub and got the "stink-eye" of a lifetime for about 20 minutes!then he just kind of went back to normal...yeah, he’s bratty sometimes.

hey ;) been away. but i am back. just to say that i got a FAB tip from Melissa Kaplan’s Iguanas for Dummies once that REALLY works. i learnt not to put my Ig "below" me but rather to put my arm straight up (provided i have a safe hold of my ig) and she starts to calm down almost instantly. the down thing takes a little longer to work, cos my ig feels challenged.
