If the beetle is dying before it even turn black more than likely you dont even got egg in there yet. As long as they got carrot or sumthing to hydrate they should’nt be dying, what’s the temperature of where they’re at? I keep mine between 78-85 in the winter and they’re doing fine so far.

Oh well 15 beetles is a small amount, I’d suggest getting 100+++ beetles for a better # of mealies since some of the mealies will die. The mealies are VERY VERY VERY small, unless you got a very sharp eye and know what to look for you wont find them, I got bored one day and was searching through the box took me about 20 minutes to find a small mealies but its pretty easy to spot mealies and know where they are after a while. Just give it time, you’ll start to see atleast some small worm crawling on the carrot.

I think i see the problem. Take the water dish out. a mealworm will die instantly once it touches water. They dont need a laying area. The eggs go on the substrate. I dont even keep them in different stages anymore cuz it takes WAY too long to get the mealies seperated from the others....
