 Breeding, flight

We breed mealworms and supwerworms accidentally in their tansk at my work. It sounds common that they eat eachother (larvae eat pupae) from what I have read. Is that just a strong trend or is that usually 100% and you need to separate them if you want to culture them? Because we get babies in both tanks.

And are there flightless strains out there? Neither type seems to ever fly out of their open-topped 10 gallon tanks.

Neither species can really fly. I haven’t even seen them flutter. I seperate mine all out as I have seen larvae and beetles both eat the pupae.

Hell yes They fly lol. but it is indeed very rare that they will. But, if you make insanely fast movement towards them, they can get a mental shock, and fly out in fright. So, you should be on the safe side and put some mesh over the top of the tank. just in case to be on the safe side.
