i recommend to start out with 100 adult mealworms or superworms. give them apples, potatoes, or carrots for moisture (oats for bedding). Basically you wait till they turn into a pupa. After they turn into a pupa you separate them because they are cannibalistic. After they hatch separate them immediately because the beetles will eat the pupa. Place moist soil(keep it moist) for them to lay their eggs on. when you start seeing baby worms separate the beetles from them and start the cycle all over again.

-(this seems to be more effective but i heard that the smaller the container the beetles are in, the more success you’ll have)

TIPS

-beetles fly!!!!(when scared)
-keep them at room temp
-when the mealworms or pupas are or dark black, squeeze them a little to see if they react, if not, there dead.
-mealworms and pupas do not bite, but i dont know about beetles.
-superworms are bigger and more active than mealworms plus, they bite.
-to not risk impaction, dont feed your pets the beetles.
-if you gonna feed them mealworms, make sure they have molted
-mealies, pupas, and beetles have a tough exoskeleton that can be difficult to digest for the lizards(green anole, brown anole, etc.)

this is all i can remember right now

So would a tub o ware container be good for the mealies and pupas? Separated of coarse. And a 5 gallon tank separated into smaller sections for the beetles? And Oatmeal good for substrate? Thanks!

this is what i use.

-a normal drinking cup for the pupas(pupas dont need subtrate)
-a small critter tank for mealies
-a small casting net box for the beetles (6inches by 4inches base while the height is 3 inches)

-one more tip
if a pupa hatch but its half pupa and half beetle, it wont last long.

When you want to make your mealies pupa or turn into beetles after pupaing, keep the temps up to about 80. Also, seperate them into tackle box seperaters... There those things that hold different varieties of lures and baits. You can find them in the sports section in Walmart.
