I started off with a colony of 500. I kept them in crushed wheat bran cereal. I separated the pupa, mealworms and beetles from each other. I gave them all a water source every day like carrots or potatoes. I kept the beetles in a very small container to make them breed more. The beetles produced less mealworms in their lifetime than I originally had. With my one gecko eating them three times a week, my colony ran out. Did I need to start off with a bigger number? Or did I do something wrong that I’m not aware of? What number should I start off with?

What did I do wrong?
u started off with plenty. idk i’d not to put the beatles together so closely? did the mealworms start to die off? or the beatles didnt breed enough or did they not lay enough eggs? do u feed the beatles enough? do they have a constant sourse of food? cause they’ll eat the eggs.
