these segments are called sternites. In the female there is little or no separation between the three most posterior sternites while in the male the intersegmental membranes are clearly visible with a lighter coloring. Also, the 5th visible sternite is quite round in the male and slightly pointed in the female. It is possible to observe the male beetle chasing the female during the courtship ritual prior to mating." All I could find : Personally I’d just wait till a pair is mating then capture them and separate them. The dude’s on top. Compare the difference with their beetle junk and see if you can tell the difference. |
