 Substrate for Praying mantis.

He’s a Giant African mantis...is bed a beast ok? He’s on gravel and it’s icky and doesn’t seem right...we bought him in a little container that had the gravel in it. And now he’s gotten an enclosure upgrade...time for substrate upgrade.
He’s so tiny right now (^_^) Isn’t he cute? He jumps in circles sometimes. It’s really funny.

 Substrate for Praying mantis.

he dosent really need substrate, unless ur trying to spice up the tank

bark chips are good, such as those from the garden part of a store
as long as it can’t harm him (and the bags are big anyway) so youll have plenty for
your next mantis, or other bug

u dont need to spend much money on praying mantises (just saying)
so i wouldnt but something like that, even if it is only like $7

even leaves, or dead grass is good (again, as long as nothing in it can harm him)

and BTW bead a beast is just fine

 Substrate for Praying mantis.

Giant Asians are a hardy type, I keep mine on vermiculite. But anything will do, sand, wood chips, moss. Anything is fine and as Mampam said - you don’t even need a substrate if you don’t want one.
