 Dead baby roaches in water?

Note: I also posted this in the monitor and feeder forums - just trying to cover all my bases.

So this morning I checked on my roaches and in one of my two bins, I have a bunch of seemingly dead baby roaches in the water dish. The dish has a folded up paper towel in in that’s hanging over the edge so they can get in and out. The roaches in question are about the size and color of a cooked grain of rice.

I just fed and watered the roaches last night and the babies weren’t in the water dish, so I’m just curious if anybody has any ideas what’s up or what I can do to prevent this in the future.

Thanks

apparently they can drown really easily so its not recomended to have a water dish. they get their moisture from vegies and fruit pieces like carrots and apples.

i agree with kathy but if you insist on giving them moisture through water, use the gel from pet stores.

The water situation has already been changed, so I don’t have to worry about that now, but I’m still kinda curious what happened. I’d never had a dead one in the water of any size and then suddenly overnight I have a whole bunch in there.

I’m thinking perhaps the female gave birth/dropped them in the water and from there they never had a chance?

I’m not particularly worried about it, I’m more curious is all...these things interest me.

This is my first bug breeding project and it’s going pretty well so far, it took a little while to get things sorted out at the beginning, but things are stable now
