From what I can see, it looks like a sheild bug. Also known as stink bug. If you hold it in your hand and close your hand with it inside, it should release a smell.
But I’m not sure, could you tell me where abouts you are please? Like country + state etc, that way I can get you a better identification =]

the pics didn’t show up but if you guys are talkin abvout sheild bugs or stink bugs then i know of it.
just like what the other guy said the insect realises a smell soo bad that the predetors will deny of eating the insect...it may be beutifully coloured and pretty but it will smell bad..when eatin say a lizard ate it then the lizard will spit it out or may be a very bad food example on the digestive system... :)
