 Praying Mantis question

Ok, my friend had a praying mantis who just recently passed away, and she told me that before it died it layed an egg case. Is it possible for this egg case to be fertile without another mate? Is it possible for any type of mantis to lay a fertile egg case without a mate?

Hello,

Unfortunatly, in most cases no. Most mantids do lay infertile eggs for no particular reason. However, some species, such as the brunners stick mantis, can lay fertile eggs with no mate (as there’s only females). I doubt in your case that it is a parthenogenic mantis, what type of mantis is it?
