Recovered King Snake Our California King (who escaped approx 7 months ago) showed up this morning just sitting at the bottom of the stairs. He has obviously done well on his own as he doubled in size. However, he is now completely unsocialized and striking every time I even go near the cage. Any suggestions on resocializing him??? I’m also worried about parasites because I think he must have been eating wild mice.

Recovered King Snake Wow!!! Major congratulations on finding your lost snake! =) If you are worried about parasites, you can always take a poop sample to the vet and have them examine it. I’m sure with regular gentle handling a couple of times a week, it will eventually calm back down. Was it inside your house the whole time or do you think it found its way outside? You must have been very happy to see it!

Recovered King Snake I think he was inside the whole time because we live in maryland and it was to cold for him outside. We did all the tricks of flouring the floor, putting out mice...... and didn’t see any sign of him until he showed up today. I figured he was long gone. Our house backs up to woods so it’s not unusual to get a mouse in the basement occasionally and he must have been living on those.
