My King bit me I’m a bit worried that you have purchased a snake not knowing what it is.As for the biting it happens especially with baby’s.I don’t feel the gloves are necessary with such a small thing. The snake needs to get used to being handled and the only way to do this is to take a few bites. You really need to be sure what you have as the husbandry is different for a king and a corn.

My King bit me
TRY NOT TO FEED IT IN ITS OWN SWEAT BOX TAKE IT OUT BEFORE A FEED AND PLACE IT IN A SEPERATE CONTAINER BEFOR E IT FEEDS,THIS WAY YOU ARE DISASOCIATING FEEDING WITH HANDERLING.HOPEFULLY THIS WILL STOP THE STRIKING.PLUS HATCHLINGS WILL DO THIS FOR A WHILE AS A FORM OF NATURAL DEFENCE

My King bit me The feeding in a different enclosure thing is actually more annoying than useful. I’ve found that it does absolutely nothing. I feed my king snakes live (never frozen) mice in their own tanks. They’re just calming down as they grow. The striking is a thing they usually always do at that age/size.

My King bit me i like to feed babies in a seperate container to elimate substrate ingestion.
when i used to use aspen i lost a few to substrate ingestion, pine is much safer than aspen plus it smells better.

My King bit me It’s probably better to handle with your bare hands. Being bit with a baby, while may be scary shouldn’t do much more than scratch you. Nothing more than what a cat might do just while playing. By holding it with your bare hands the snake becomes accustomed to your scent, I think they do calm down a little bit once they realize the hand is warm too. Like it’s almost a comfortable place to be. They will calm down with time, it just takes patience and understanding their behavior, temperment, moods etc.
Some people feed in a seperate container, others feed them inside. I don’t feel like they form any behavorial pattern by feeding in tank. Mine certainly hasn’t. She hasn’t associated my reaching in as ’feeding time’. She’s usually triggered by the smell of mice first and then she gets it. This is after I move her to a cleared off spot in the tank though so she does accidently swallow some aspen along with mouse.

My King bit me
Well some people dont feed their snakes live food because of the risk of the prey item fighting back and possibly injuring the snake.I dont feed my snakes live food because it is cheaper in the long run to get them frozen anyway,(depending on where you get your frozen food) and for the reason I just stated, for the food item could fight back and possibly injure your snake. But no I dont think it is cruel to any one of them especailly to the snake because how do you think they get their food out in the wild? And its nature mice die out in the wild from snakes, hawks, owls, ect. And snakes get preyed upon by many things.Anyway, I’m not saying that any other opinion is wrong I’m just giving you mine, nothing personal.

My King bit me I don’t find it cruel at all. They strike the second the mouse lands on the floor of the tank. It has absolutely no chance. Snakes are natural predators and that’s one thing I don’t want to take away from them. Nothing comes pre-killed to them in the wild. I also don’t have to worry about them eating substrate because I don’t that stuff. I keep them on those washable reptile carpet things. Plus, feeding live is a lot more fun to watch, especially when the mice start squealing.

My King bit me I would never try a live rat with my kingsnake. I do that for my boa sometimes, but he’s a lot bigger and can handle them.

My King bit me nothing wrong with that, a good sized B.c. can easily take out a jumbo live rat.

My King bit me K...well here is the thing. If you own a snake you will get bit a few times. There is no stopping that. But don’t freak out about it. It is natural. To make him less aggressive just handle him a little more but leave him when he seems a little ticked off.
Thats my bit.

My King bit me I do the same thing with my baby Artimas. She’s at her most aggresive after feeding time, it usually takes her about 15-20 mins to be calm enogh for me to open her feeding container before I put her back in her home. Otherwise she tries to strike anything that moves near her while she’s in her feeding container.

My King bit me I don’t -like- to feed live food. I supervise and make sure my snake is not bit, that he gets a proper hold etc. When it’s a choice between live food or not eating at all, I’m going to make the choice that ensures the health and survival of my animal. I knew that when I became a snake owner that it might come down to feeding live if it was necessary.

My King bit me nothing is wrong with feeding live, snakes have been killing their food for millions of years,
but feeding dead is even better as long as it’s thawed out well.
