how do you know you need flex-watt heat tape? i don’t keep my snakes in my house i keep them in my shop and since i don’t brumate i use tape in the winter. heat tape is not needed in a warm room. when i was a kid ages and ages ago and way b/4 heattape was invented i kept lots and lots of snakes w/o heattape.
besides if you don’t know what you’re doing you can burn your house down with heattape.
i use heattape but i don’t recommend it.
one night i enterd my snake room and smelled burning plastic. my heattape was too hot!
i was using 4" 10watt heattape and crappy petstore dimmer switch(very bad combination).
so i reduced 4"10watt to 3" 6watt and replaced the crappy petstore dimmer for a quality hardware store dimmer.
never had that problem again! life is good.

If it’s only one tub it might be less hassle and more economical to use a UTH and a good dimmer or thermostat.

I don’t have a pic at the moment, but I’ll describe my tub set up as detailed as possible. First I burn the holes in with a soldering iron, about 20 per side. Then I make two hides out of plastic bowls by burning doorways in them with the iron. I put about 2 inches of aspen in the tub, put a hide at each end, and the water in the middle. I use office binder clips to hold the lids down. I use a uth on a thermostat or light dimmer. Some of my tubs have a small rock, or fake foliage in there for the snake.

I use heat pads for the 6 snakes that aren’t in a rack, and for the 7 others in the rack, I use a heat cable that came with the rack. It’s threaded through the back and goes down through the rack.
