Question about blue eyes I know that when snakes go into blue eye that they’re getting ready to shed. From your experiences, how long after blue eye starts do they shed? Did their temperaments go back to normal fairly quickly after their shed? My new baby (well I’ve had him for about a week and a half now) went into blue eye yesterday. It didn’t scare me, just caught me off guard so I immediately looked at his face and his eyes are both a bright blue! I didn’t realize it when I reached into the tank and he actually struck at me, which I don’t blame him for, he couldn’t see well and how could he have known it was me and not food or a predator.

Question about blue eyes That does vary a lot from one snake to another, but a week or so is what you can expect. Temperament does not get worse with good tempered snakes, but young snakes that are very nervous to begin with tend to be more afrais during the time when they don’t see well.

Question about blue eyes Okay, A week is what I was thinking. My baby’s maybe 2-3 months old so I do think that this might be his first shed, and the loss of sight a new experience for him. He’s otherwise a very sweet little guy.

Question about blue eyes When they’re in blue they really can’t see too well so they’re extra jumpy and cranky. After they go blue it’s usually a 3-4 days until they fade back to clear before they finally shed. Then it will be a day or two after the eyes clear before the actual shed happens.

Question about blue eyes In my own personal experience when my snake goes into the blue I tend not to handle touch or even disturb her until she has shed. After she goes into the blue, it usually takes a 5-8 days until she actually shed. I would just leave your snake alone until he sheds. Then handle him again. When I first got my snake after she shed a few times she got a little snippy but she is fine now. The only reason he struck at you was because he couldn’t see and that is his only real defense. After the blue in their eyes are gone make sure you find the shed. Before my snake sheds her eyes will go back to normal so make sure you find a shed.
Hopefully this helps you.
